I've always thought it a bit surreal when there's a steam special on a platform and passengers 'are reminded that smoking is forbidden'!
Bit too Monty Python for me.
Apparently some new buses are more eco friendly by having thier engines reduced from 9 litres to 5. How is the lessened litreage accounted for? Higher gearing?
Hi
I'm looking clarification on the use of FIP tickets on Stena Belfast-Liverpool sailings. I'm told because this route wasn't in use prior to privatisation there are no discounts/FIP tickets available. Is this correct?
Thanks.
Call me cynical, but do the rail operating companies block the mobile data signal to mobiles so that the user has to use the companies Wi-Fi, or is the signal bad at speed?
Why do most football fans that I know denigrate an interest in all things rail? I was once told it was a form of jealously - anybody can sit and watch a football match, but it requires effort to build a model.
On a steam loco's vacuum brake in the cab, there's a disk with holes which travels through 90 degrees, this I know operates the large and small ejector cones. My query is about the small finger operated lever that is on the handle - what does that operate?
It's on the last pic on this link -...

Hi
Does anybody know if FIP tickets have to be booked in advance to travel on Stena Belfast/Cairnryan? I hope to travel next April, when I last travelled Belfast/Stranraer on Stena I was able to just turn up my FIP & pay the port tax - I've heard Stena were getting harder to use, FIP wise...

Is FGW as bad as he makes out? Is there no alternative to the train?
I saw a wheel being made for this loco on the hairy biker prog last night. They were casting a new driving wheel for it. I was wondering if the wooden mould was a Swindon original or has it been made recently?

Surely the TOC's are missing out? I know there are waiting times at airports and there still is travel to the airport - but still?
I watched this last night, I'm wondering about the LU 150 steam runs, what Met no.12 Sarah Siddons was doing in the consist. Was it for brakes or as emergency power to move the train? I could see a Class 20 at the back. L1 seemed to fail with a big end bearing before her run.
A friend today had visited the Downpatrick railway at the weekend

He said to me today 'the trip is only 10 minutes!'
I told him that considering in 1985 the site was empty, everything has had to have been brought in, and that all the work is voluntary they...
Hi
I'm considering travelling Glasgow/London first class. I have a standard FIP , I'm told I can upgrade by paying the difference. What is the normal First & Standard fare Glasgow/London?
Also, has anybody done this before?
Thanks
