The Valley Junction Indian restaurant at Corbridge station offers a 'curry train' service where you get on at Newcastle or Carlisle, have a drink and a starter on the train and by the time you arrive at Corbridge your meal is ready.
Here is the link. Has anybody tried it? It sounds quite fun.
I am probably going to take an EMT operated service from St Pancras to Sheffield soon and am looking at the 8.56am departure.
I note with interest from this page that there is a complimentary breakfast in 1ST but that all northbound services offer a light breakfast, with a full breakfast only...
I am inclined to convert GBP 50.00 of Nectar points to GBP 75.00 of VTEC travel under an Advance fare.
But I do not see the mechanism for achieving this. Am I being dim or does this facility not exist yet? Can anybody see how to do it?
Many thanks in advance! :)
I was pondering last night ... does the East Coast Mainline ever cross east of the prime meridian and enter the eastern hemisphere? I don't think it does, but am thinking that it just might somewhere between King's Cross and Peterborough.
This question is just to satisfy my own curiosity, so...
I wonder if VTEC will mark their new franchise with a sale?
I have a choice for some upcoming travel:
i) book a 1ST Single at GBP 44.50 now and earn enough EC Rewards points for a "free" STD single, which I would use at a weekend and upgrade to 1ST with the GBP 25 supplement (total spend =...
A Super Off Peak Return from King's Cross to Newcastle is GBP 129.10.
A Super Off Peak Single from King's Cross to Newcastle and back is GBP 64.15 each way. The price for two of these tickets is GBP 128.30.
So two singles are cheaper than a return.
Any idea why? :)
(I note with interest that...
If I go all the way around the London Overground, getting on at Clapham Junction and getting off there too, what is the correct fare using Oyster?
Would touching out and then in again at Highbury & Islington suffice?
Heading northbound from Pimlico to King's Cross-St Pancras the doors open on the right hand side and a passenger walking straight out and through the atrium will find herself on the other platform.
At King's Cross however the northbound service's doors open on the left hand side yet a...
I was on an East Coast service the other week and was very pleased that it was delayed for 35 minutes as I got my 50% delay repay voucher today!
Of course a three hour delay is another matter, but I always build plenty of spare time into my schedule so if all of my longhaul trains were 35...
I was travelling from St Pancras yesterday on EMT and could see the Eurostar trains from the platform and as we pulled out.
They were absolutely filthy, covered in mud, muck and grime. It presents an extremely bad image for Eurostar as these trains are the face of their brand.
Why do they...
I am on the 1425 East Coast service from Newcastle and the operating equipment is 125 rather than the scheduled 225.
Maximum confusion as there is no coach K and coach M is closed so nobody can find their reserved seat! :D
The lights in coach M are off so I assume this is the problem. The...
When I travelled through London Bridge last night I noticed, as I have at other stations, that a small fee is required to use the station lavatory.
The fare was 30p and you have to put money into a turnstile barrier. Which is all very well, but I hardly ever carry cash with me and if I do it is...
I am looking forward to a trip to Canterbury and will be taking the express service from St Pancras.
Is there a 1ST compartment on these services? And if so, how many seats are there abreast in both 1ST and STD?
The East Coast site will sell a 1ST fare at GBP 42.70, but when I click on it...
In my time I have taken quite a few replacement bus services, particularly on the Liverpool Street to Norwich line on a Sunday. Sometimes the ride could be more than an hour.
Most of the time the first bus would go full and the second bus almost empty So my strategy was to wait and get on the...
If the Scottish Independence Referendum result is 'Yes' will the bidding process for the ECML have to be re-started?
If I was a bidder I would consider that an independent Scotland may dramatically alter my willingness to pay and hence would wish to resubmit my financial proposal.
If I travel to Ascot using a 1ST off-peak return on Monday then I see a GBP 22.90 fare that is:
* valid on all return services direct from Ascot to Waterloo; but
* not valid on services to Vauxhall with a change at Clapham Junction departing Ascot between 15:00 and 18:00.
Why is this? :)...
What equipment operates on St Pancras to Corby?
Is it a commuter-type service with 2-2 seat configuration in 1ST or does it have an InterCity 1-2 configuration?
Many thanks in advance. :)
In this thread (now closed) I said:
Yesterday (Sunday) I travelled Paddington to Maidenhead return and had purchased a 1ST off peak day return. Surprisingly there were ticket checks in both directions.
On the way out I asked the inspector if Weekend First was valid on those trains and he...
