Evening all,
Currently waiting for a bus at Cromwell Road Bus Station in Kingston, and very confused to see two Chaseside liveried buses (one Enviro200 and one Enviro400) operating with blinds showing route 111.
My initial thought was additional relief services during the tube strikes, but...
During engineering works, I have guarded shuttle services between Surbiton and Hampton Court, a journey of approximately 7 minutes with half an hour's turnaround at Hampton Court. Quite enjoyable on a single 458 just shuttling back and forth all day.
What's also interesting about these workings...
Currently sitting onboard Metrobus route 22 heading towards Crawley and just overheard the automated announcer proclaim our next stop is "Fox Revived" - I believe it's named after a pub but an amusingly named one at that!
Edit: To continue the theme of weird and wonderful bus stop names on the...
White Bus in the Berkshire and Surrey area are a very well-presented bus company, with spotlessly clean and well turned out buses, friendly and presentable drivers and are in general just a high-quality bus operator.
They've got a handful of older vehicles still in former operator's liveries...
No worries at all, and thank you that clears it up. :)
As I'll be staying in St Ives, it sounds like a useful link so fingers crossed it's running by the time I'm down there!
Thanks to all who have replied so far, some fantastic options for me to consider all around.
Having done a bit of research into the routes which have been mentioned, I'm really quite confused by this one. The TfC website shows the route as running between St Just and Sennen Cove but with no...
Whilst those things are important, I do feel that if a particular bus company takes little pride in its interior presentation, with filthy seats and a generally poor onboard environment, then there's little incentive for me to travel with them if other alternative options exist, such as using...
Strongly agree with this. Went on my first 730 the other night and the lighting was so harsh and bright it was genuinely hurting my eyes, making it completely impossible to relax. I'm sure the ambience is more tolerable during the day but travelling on one at night left a frankly terrible first...
To be honest I find that entire section of the ECML between Peterborough and Doncaster mind-numbingly dull, and didn't think very much of the line between Doncaster and Leeds either. Much prefer the WCML by comparison, just feels a lot more interesting.
Has been mentioned upthread already, but another vote for Guildford. Filthy, squalid hole of a place with every surface caked in pigeon poo. Clearly has not received any sort of investment for years and has fallen into such a nasty state it looks like you'd get tetanus from touching anything in...
That's fair, and I can understand why. They certainly do feel more spacious, but it's just for me personally that I feel something about them is lacking.
It's subjective, but I do prefer the more "cosy" feeling of the Pendolinos so that might play a part in why I'm not so keen on the Everos.
Thanks very much for that, very helpful!
Re western Cornwall, I was toying with the idea of using Penwith, but thought it might've been a bit obscure, so ended up going with western Cornwall. But yes, anything west of Truro certainly works - I shall be staying in St Ives so really anything...
Towards the end of June, I'll be going for a short break down to western Cornwall, and would like to make the most of travelling around and exploring what the area has to offer.
I've already planned out a few things I'd like to see, but can anybody suggest any particularly good or enjoyable bus...
Sanders Coaches of Norfolk used to operate some very scruffy and poor vehicles until relatively recently, when most of their older vehicles got replaced by a large order of brand new ones. They are now a very smart and well-regarded operator in my opinion.
Would strongly disagree with this...
Perhaps a controversial one, and by no means the most disappointing rolling stock going, but I find the Avanti Evero fleet really quite underwhelming, especially when compared to the existing Pendolinos.
Whilst it's no doubt they're the better of the bad bunch that is IETs, I just can't warm to...
Thanks to all who have replied, some very good suggestions so far! Agreed the Lake District open top buses are fantastic.
I have just seen that the Stagecoach Thanet open top route 69 has been extended this year and now serves Margate and Minnis Bay. I did this route last year when it was just...
With the summer rapidly approaching, I'd like to get out and make the most of the open top buses which are running around the country this year.
I seem to recall a particular bus blog site (think it was Hants & Surrey Bus Blog) used to publish a yearly comprehensive list of all the open top...
