Almost certainly to provide enough brake force as the brakes on the mk5s will not be cleared yet.

Saw 68027 and 020 with a rake of Mk3's by Edge Hill before. Driver training I guess.

I had a quick look through but i couldn't see the answer so apologies if it's a repost!

Is there a potential follow-on order built into the contract for ordering a few more carriages to bolt into the sets?

I'm really not sure if their current length will do much given the level of suppressed demand - he typed on an absolutely stowed out 3-car 185....

You can go up to a 7 car set

At this rate the whole fleet will be here significantly ahead of schedule. Almost explains the ditching of the Mk3

Had a lovely announcement this morning from our guard as we arrived on the 8:22 at Victoria, who apologiesed for the lack of seats this morning and that as passengers we should see the new stock from the autum.

Ok, so why does the delivery of 5 carriages require 2xCl47 and 5 "barrier" vehicles, none of which is actually positioned between the locomotives and Mk5s? Do the Mk5As not have conventional air brakes or are they not in use or something?

They do have conventional drawgear (drawhook and UIC standard buffers) and conventional brake pipes at each end of the rake so this is a bit odd.

Probably because the Mk.Vs are not cleared for Network Rail use yet, they are being operated unbraked, through piped to the rear vehicles which provide the brake force. As for two locomotives, just insurance against the use of heritage locomotives I would guess. My opinions are not necessarily fact, though.... :)

Have noted the subtle first class, wheelchair access and bicycle markings, believed to be missing on the first rake. You'll probably need to pause the footage to see them - but what my camera lacks in general quality is compensated by framerate.

Dubious soundtrack courtesy of the Levenshulme Market, and in no way reflective of my tastes :E

It is interesting to see that they've put the seat number stickers up high on the doors. I can understand why they haven't put them next to the doors (because they'll be obscured when the door is open), but I don't think having them at the top of the door is the best place for them.

Could've been worse..could've been despacito
I saw the consist passing Heaton Chapel literally minutes before you saw it passing Levenshulme. I'm really looking forward to them entering service; hopefully more vehicles can be added if capacity proves to be limited aftee a couple of years.
