Could've been worse..could've been despacito
I saw the consist passing Heaton Chapel literally minutes before you saw it passing Levenshulme. I'm really looking forward to them entering service; hopefully more vehicles can be added if capacity proves to be limited aftee a couple of years.
They already had the extra capacity hanging on the back :p

Have noted the subtle first class, wheelchair access and bicycle markings, believed to be missing on the first rake. You'll probably need to pause the footage to see them - but what my camera lacks in general quality is compensated by framerate.

Dubious soundtrack courtesy of the Levenshulme Market, and in no way reflective of my tastes :E

Like the European style boxed pictograms (they fit very well on what is a very European style train), but it really needs a yellow stripe for 1st as well.

Someone has posted that 7 carriages is the limit. Any extra carriages will slow down the sets so it is not necessarily a good idea. If they prove to have insufficient capacity I would prefer them to be internally or externally cascaded and extra 802s built. I am too young to remember most intercity services being loco hauled so I don't have an emotional attachment or sense of nostalgia. TPE chose Mark Vs because CAF had a gap in the order book and therefore offered quick delivery at a low price. There is no guarantee that they would offer additional Mark Vs at a similiar price. They do look promising though!

Doubt they'll get any new orders for them anyway, unless TPE order more. Sadly, there aren't exactly any new franchises coming up, with would need new loco hauled stock, apart from XC, which will get no new stock, because its XC ;)

Well...... we could have rakes ordered for going between HST power cars if they are really that light!

Yes. They've got the lightweight inside frame bogies too (FLEXX Eco I *think*).

FLEXX eco is a Bombardier bogie, the bogies used on the mk5s are CAF designed and made going by the photos that @Tam was able to take of them at Velim.

Is that even possible? I'm sure it would've been thought about / done, if to was possible. It is a good idea in theory though, although I'm guessing it would cost a hell of a lot.

Its probably possible but why would they do it instead of using locos and trailers to increase seating capacity? The class 43s will become less and less reliable with age.

Not only that, but the power locos would require modifications to operate with the power doors and possibly the passenger information systems as well, in the same way the 68s have been.

Only if the sets were to operate with the doors under driver control.

And yet there are huge numbers of 50 year old locomotives running around the network every day!
Class 43s are relatively young - they at least have alternators!

Even the power door fitted MK3 stock can only operate with modified power cars - I don't think anybody is expecting a guard to have to identify that the train is correctly stopped at platforms on anything other than charter tours, unless I'm missing something. Can you give an example of a regular passenger service where the doors are not opened or released by the driver at present?

They really aren't that young. The 50 year old locos 'running around every day' are generally not intensively used (I assume you're taking about the 20s and the 37). When Northern/DRS tried running a passenger service using 37s it was an utter disaster. Of locos on front line, express service they are the oldest by some margin.

I can only speak for the North but the following classes have complete guard control where the guard releases and locks the doors at Merseyrail, Northern and TPE:
142, 143, 144, 150, 153, 155, 156, 158, 185, 319, 321, 322, 333, 350, 507, 508.

Probably plenty more about across the country

Virtually everything on SWT, and virtually everything operated by Sprinters.
The MML, ICEC and GWML HSTs, and the GEML and ECML Loco-hauled operations.

And the list goes on.
