"Door Operations in line with the agreed method of operation."
That was what was in the EMR ASLEF pay deal.
The current method on Meridians is the driver releases the guard's panel and then the guard (called a 'Train Manager' on ex-Midland Mainline) opens and closes the doors and gives the 'ready to start' bell signal.
In July, the RMT stated, "The inclusion of door release as a “productivity item” in the Train Driver’s pay deal directly undermines the job roles, recognition, and safety responsibilities of RMT-represented grades."
I don't know if this has been cleared up or not.
Bear in mind that EMR is made up of former Midland Mainline Drivers and Train Managers (which was the TOC at the time of Meridian's introduction), and former Central Trains Drivers and Senior Conductors.
I think RMT are anxious that door control arrangements are not eroded for their members, by way of Meridian-style arrangements spreading, or future class 810 arrangements setting a standard across the TOC.
