Still cannot believe the RMT are agreeing to 3.4% pay deals with no minimum uplift for those under a certain amount. Awful
3.4% is the February RPI figure, which is the basis for pay reviews for anyone with a 1st April anniversary date.

Whilst it's disappointing that it isn't higher, it's unlikely the Treasury (let's face it, it's ultimately them rather than the DfT who hold the purse strings) will sanction anything more without significant changes to Ts&Cs.

As per the title does anyone know what going on with the pay offer this year for TOCS? Are they deciding on a national mandate with DFT putting out details or is it being locally decided ?
GWR is 3.4% for 2025 and RMT , Unite and Tssa unions are having a membership vote on it now , all 3 unions have recommended a yes vote to the offer

Is that 3.4%, for RMT guards, no strings?

Edited to add guard/grade clarification.

It’s ridiculous to think that there could be any strings for something that’s a basic RPI pay offer.
Clearly, you don't work in the rail industry.

As far as I can gather, it's 2.8% flat or 3.4%, with changes, across multiple TOCs.
And knowing that GWRs RMT reps have put it out to ballot, helps inform other TOC staff to query what's going on, when their own reps recommend accepting a vague increase without oversight or giving detail.

Hence my original statement.

Clearly?? I’ve just taken early retirement after 41 years in it

Congratulations on your service. That's a good length of time to be in. I think, also the right time to have got out.
I honestly cannot remember ASLEF giving anything away for anything RPI or less. It had to be worth our while. The recent 3 year pay deal and full back pay agreed shortly after Labour took power ended up with no strings whatsoever.

Ah, well, on the RMT side, we regularly have strings attached, or at least something tweaked or messed about with, even for the basics.

Just to point out that EMR drivers have a January pay anniversary, which is different to other grades at the company which have their pay anniversary in April. So inflation will be a different figure.

Most other TOCs Drivers are April, although I believe a couple are in May, and Southern, Gatwick Express, Great Northern and Thameslink are all in October.

For drivers, the ones I know of that have been agreed are:

EMR*
LNER
Northern
Greater Anglia
C2C
TPE
Elizabeth Line
West Midlands Trains

*As alluded to in posts above, EMR drivers have a two year deal for 2025 and 2026.
Are these all the same 3.4% with no strings? (apart from the EMR deal obviously)

WMT is 2.8 no strings, 3.4 with unspecified 'productivity' items.
With the glacial pace our negotiations go, I'd be very surprised if it's settled by Christmas. On the plus side, nice back payment lump sum, as I think this is our 2024 negotiations at the moment, assuming we ask for it to be back paid to then...

2.8% will be fine with me.

Text just received from RMT regarding XC:

3.5% no strings backdated to May. E-referendum to take place.

I’ve just been on the members site, updated with 2024 yes, but not anything more recently. The most expensive Union by far, they need to update that info so that members can actually view TOC and FOC info that is relevant and not out of date

In fairness I doubt many members really use it for that purpose. Most of us already know what we get paid(!) and if you want to move the ASLEF info has long been out of date, and it’s easy enough to find out from other sources/job adverts.

It’s about the last thing I’d consider when weighing up the cost of ASLEF membership (still well worth it in my view).

At the same time though, considering they provide the Company Information source, they could easily update it so people CAN look at it and use that information. It’s there for a reason, and wouldn’t take much ressource to update it, esp considering the fairly excessive amount they charge compared to other similar unions.

I agree if they have it at all they might as well keep it up to date. Otherwise may as well dispense with it!

Just showing what each TOC / FOC pays is very simplistic. We all know what other companies pay and its easy to ask colleagues so there is little point in Aslef really publishing it.

Terms and Conditions can make up quite significant shortfalls in pay. A FOC with a money purchased pension scheme vs a TOC with a Defined Benefit when you look at monthly contributions vs benefit would startle many.

Pleasantly surprised to receive the back pay owed me from GA yesterday. I didn’t even know the deal had been accepted.
