Greater Anglia really are the feeling the strain units wise, at present:

156407 - away at Wolverton.

153314 - away at works, ie flood damage caused at Lowestoft.

156417 - out of service, waiting new wheelsets and will be the next unit to go to Wolverton now because of this.

153314 is actually still at Crown Point, but nevertheless under repair. Also 170205 (I think) is currently in two parts waiting a replacement suspension airbag...

The generic problems with the radios are well known. Other operators take action to ensure that there staff understand how to avoid breaking them or work around the problem areas. Greater Anglia cant be a**sed (bothered)

So we are breaking them now?

According to the Class 90 Electric Loco Group website that diagram was being covered today by 90005. Has 90005 failed?

Or has the AJ1G-RFM simply been removed from the usual formation?

Yeah, just had the FOD removed I think as running around as a load 8 now.

10.00, 15.00 & 20.00 ex-Nrw also has no catering vehicle. Trolley service only.

Cheers - thanks. My mistake getting my RFM's mixed up with my FOD's.

Hope that all sets can be more fully formed for tomorrow am :)

Yeah saw this train at Stowmarket this evening pushed by 90005 with just the one first class coach with a TSOB in the formation.

I would guess getting rid of the FOD also breaks all the wifi on the train to boot! I know which set I don't want to take to London tomorrow!

East Midlands unit 158785 made it to Sheringham last night on the 21.15 from Norwich. Unusually today the loco-hauled short set is currently scheduled to work the 19.40 Norwich-Cambridge & 21.15 return. This working has no EMT service close behind so should cause no problem.

Should be before the 37s arrive using the current 47s. The two GA coaches currently used are desperately needed to bolster the depleted mainline fleet.

Seems like things are getting even tighter with DMU's on Greater Anglia today.

Just seen a single car 153 flying around between Ipswich/Cambridge, and there are various cancellations between Norwich-Cambridge & Norwich-Lowestoft due to train faults.

Have we had another unit go down? :(

Looks like the Marks Tey to Sudbury branch service will be replaced by a bus tomorrow. Also delays on the mainline out of London due to an earlier train fault at Romford.

"We would like to advise customers that train services between Marks Tey & Sudbury on Tuesday 4th March, will be operated by a replacement bus all day.

This is because of damage caused to one of our local trains (involved in a fatality incident last week) which is undergoing repairs, together with repairs which are continuing to another train which sustained flood damage earlier this winter, and is undergoing extensive repairs. This is in addition to the ongoing refurbishment of one of our Class 156 trains as part of the planned upgrade which is continuing for these trains.

Abellio Greater Anglia would like to apologise to our customers affected by these alterations, and for the inconvenience this may cause. We would like to assure passengers that we are doing everything possible to complete the necessary repairs to these trains as quickly as we can."

Although a 3 car 170 made it to Felixstowe today.

I posted on the other G A thread but it seems my question and comment may be better here

Did not hear about the fatility did the unit hit a vehicle if it was a person what was the damage was it something like a brake pipe ?

My solution to the stock issue on Marks Tey-Sudbury is to borrow the 306 from EARM and run it push pull with their steam loco ( tounge in cheek )

I quite often travel between Shenfield and Chelmsford and more often than not get on a 360, they appear to run well, but Abellio really need to see to the interiors, carpets and seat fabric in most of them are in need of ripping up and replacing. As for the 321s are old and knackered. I did get on the 321 Demonstrator the other day and the interior on that is a vast improvement and they reckon they have made mods to the traction control systems to improve traction and energy efficiency of the train compared to other 321s.

The new traction system is currently undergoing extensive trials. The 3214XX's were refitted very nicely but unfortunately some people cant respect the trains and ruin the carpets, floors and seats. A TOC isn't going to spend thousands and thousands on refurbishing trains every year for drunk party goers to vomit all over the place and leave their Mcdonalds to be trampled all over the floor.

Believe me the trains come out of the yard in the morning 100 times cleaner than they go in at night!

The next two days will now see the Felixstowe branch service replaced by buses due to the DMU shortage.

You must travel off-peak then :)

The trip home from school many years ago was usually a 360, which was doubly nice back then as they were almost brand new (this was 2004-2006). Now commuting from London though, during peak hours no 360s call at Shenfield that I'm aware of, so I have to be especially late to be on one. Agreed on the interiors though, it may be a tired comparison between the two franchises but also being a regular c2c user, there's no question that the seats on their slightly older 357s are in far better shape than those on GA's 360s which are getting pretty threadbare. I'm not convinced it's a manufacturer issue because the seats on SWT's Desiros are in far better shape. Cleanliness is a difficult one though, because being a bit of a snob for a minute, the general 'standard of customer' on the lines through essex is quite poor, especially out of peak commuter periods. The trains didn't suddenly become dirty by themselves...

Fatality was on foot but was struck in such a way significant damage was done to the fibreglass front which needs repairing, and the driver's windscreen needs replacing.

To be fair, I do mainly travel mainly off peak, usually getting on the Liverpool St to Colchester Town train at Shenfield at 1203 and then usually the Colchester Town to Liverpool St train at Chelmsford at 2116, very rare that either of these services are anything other than 360's. Although when I work Saturday's I usually end up getting the Liverpool St to Braintree train at Shenfield at 0711, which is more often than not a 321.

I can understand that TOC's are on a hiding to nothing when it comes to cleanliness of their trains when customers leave rubbish everywhere, but quite often on the train home from work in the evening, it's usually Evening Standard papers all over the carriage, which are from London, so the papers would have travelled from Liverpool St or Stratford to Colchester Town and then back to Chelmsford by the time I get on, I would have thought they'd have cleaners at Colchester Town to have a quick tidy up before sending it back to Liverpool St. I wouldn't suggest that's the nicest job to have to do, but at least it's a job and would have someone earning a bit of money.

As for the threadbare seats, you can't blame people chucking rubbish down or vomiting on the train for that. I would go as far as to say that's general wear and tear but given that some seats are far worse than others and if, as mentioned, other roughly the same age Desiro's have less wear and tear on them, what's the reason for Greater Anglia's seats being so tatty?

I think the answer is to get together Hutchinson and Network rail. share the cost, and double and electrify the line then you could have a train every few mins.
class 92 have the power to keep up with the e m u
And my favorite bandwagon run the cl 306 as a shuittle Ipswich to Flex

With total average usage for every station on the branch summing less than 800 a day, I doubt that will ever happen. I imagine the demands of the line could easily be covered if required by use of a 2-car DMU instead of a 153. If a requirement for 2tph came about (wasn't this in the spec for the Anglian franchise proposals into the 2020s - to have 2tph weekdays on every branch?) I'd imagine they could just get away with a couple of passing loops. Doubling the entire line seems like far too much engineering for the use Felixstowe gets.
