To be fair, I do mainly travel mainly off peak, usually getting on the Liverpool St to Colchester Town train at Shenfield at 1203 and then usually the Colchester Town to Liverpool St train at Chelmsford at 2116, very rare that either of these services are anything other than 360's. Although when I work Saturday's I usually end up getting the Liverpool St to Braintree train at Shenfield at 0711, which is more often than not a 321.
I can understand that TOC's are on a hiding to nothing when it comes to cleanliness of their trains when customers leave rubbish everywhere, but quite often on the train home from work in the evening, it's usually Evening Standard papers all over the carriage, which are from London, so the papers would have travelled from Liverpool St or Stratford to Colchester Town and then back to Chelmsford by the time I get on, I would have thought they'd have cleaners at Colchester Town to have a quick tidy up before sending it back to Liverpool St. I wouldn't suggest that's the nicest job to have to do, but at least it's a job and would have someone earning a bit of money.
As for the threadbare seats, you can't blame people chucking rubbish down or vomiting on the train for that. I would go as far as to say that's general wear and tear but given that some seats are far worse than others and if, as mentioned, other roughly the same age Desiro's have less wear and tear on them, what's the reason for Greater Anglia's seats being so tatty?
