Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed something odd, on the down side at Woking. Services using plat 4, on approach, are being crossed onto the slow (2212 switch) and immediately back onto the fast (2213 switch) and into the platform?
At first I thought the short bit of track between them...
Looking for a bit of "educated guess" knowledge for this upcoming week of strikes if I may?
Basically I've got the big FOSW (Freedom of South West) 8 day rover / holiday all bought and booked up for the first week of Dec, only to hear soon after doing so that ASLEF plan to walk out from various...
This has really been bugging me for some time now. One of BBC's little advertising fillers, where they show various weather clips from around the country. Just can't quite work out what station this is?
Just a quick one - one day travelcard (z1-6), and a cdr from coulsdon sth. to Brighton. Would this be valid from Victoria on the Gatwick express to Brighton (first stop Gatwick), under nrcot sect. 14.3? Or if not, a thameslink service from London Bridge ?
I think if one was kept mainline registered for charters it'd be better as one or two of the original dc ones, taking into account the earlier talk of something being wrong with the AC conversion.?
Could someone put a name to this piece of equipment please, in the four foot? See them all the time at fishplated joints, sometimes with a box at both ends, sometimes only one end, different cable arrangements etc. Is it something to do with track circuit?
Thanks.
Just a quick one, what is the Southern stock usually used on the Harbour to Brighton, and the Southsea to L'Hampton? I'm fairly sure it's 377s Brighton and 313s Littlehampton but I could be wrong?
Just seen a 12 car do a couple of test runs tonight between Wimbledon Pk and Staines, didn't get nos but it's formed of 2x455 and 2x456. I didn't think they could operate as a 12. Anyone know what they're up to?
Just a quick one. Immediately before reaching p1 at Crystal Palace, there's a fairly long, and almost intact platform visible through the undergrowth (adjacent to Maberley Rd). What was it originally? I can't find much online, but all I can take a guess at is either Upper Norwood, or the...
It's been bugging me for ages, the few staff I've asked don't know either. It's a 4-tone fanfare, seemingly only at Southern's stations. It doesn't necessarily precede or follow any announcements, it just happens. Sometimes quite a lot. File I caught of the sound is below.
Hi, question on off-peak validity on the Night Riviera sleeper. I can see there is a closed thread on a similar (but not quite the same) issue from a number of years back, but this is a bit different anyway, I shall explain. It does get a little technical but please bear with me.
I'm looking...
Hi,
I quite often buy rovers on FGW as they're generally good value. However as we know, on 27/28 Dec they're diverting some services to Marylebone, and some to Waterloo. Now, what I sometimes do, is buy an Oxford rover (valid from Banbury down to Reading and also cotswold line), and also a...
Saw last night an 8-car 455 go by on down fast, then back on the up later, so I looked it up and it was booked as 5Z50 ECS from Wimbledon park CSD to WOK and back again. What was the point of that exactly? I thought ghost train, but for a start there's plenty of other services on the line, and...
Can anyone shed any light on this: i purchased a thames branches day ranger today, at Reading. The full fare is £15.50, but i have a network railcard. Now, i'm fully aware of the £13 minimum fare mon-fri applying to ALL journeys - in fact i even bought a full adult ticket to get me to Reading as...
FGW are closing the line Taunton - Tiverton at weekends from 19th Feb to 27th Mar apparently, with HSTs dropping down at Castle Cary and round the yeovil curve onto the SWT Exeter line. No timetable details as yet on FGW site though.
Snapped this passing Yeovil earlier today, it's so sad!! All alone in it's faded paintwork, and getting snowed on as well! I do miss being behind one of these taking me down to Exeter, there's nothing like it.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
