I'm guessing somebody had pulled the egress handle and forced them open?

As far as I could make out, the wailers went the other side on release, and about ten seconds later that one opened by itself. Someone got up on seeing it open and went off down the train, then the guard came. Shortly after that he had to close and re release the doors twice more before he got the interlock, then the unit was on its way.

I am very surprised the unit continued, if in service, and even if empty there could have been gauging issues should the door re-open.

I would expect it to go straight to depot for a through investigation. Possibly even with RAIB involvement as there was potential for passenger injury or worse.

Don't know why your worried it would have set an alarm off in the driving cab.

As Corporal Jones in dad's army used to say. Don't Panic.

Can the TMS detect both what side the guard has selected to release and if any doors on the wrong side have been unlocked?

Quite!

Calm down everyone! This will have broken the Traction Interlock Circuit. It was never going anywhere like that! And if it did subsequently fail the circuit would once again be broken and the unit would once again come to a halt. You'd have to be incredibly unlucky to find something out of guage in those few seconds!

Can you also notify the police, MI5, SAS and the US Secret Service?

That looks like Addlestone? One of the many mistakes bred by a few simple types would have pulled it to pee the guard off.

Some right pondlife round there.

All dealt with no issue.

OP I guess you had a boring night in......

If the cause of this is known it is not an issue, if it just happened with no one near the doors then it is.

Risk of happening again both on this unit and others, possible software upgrade fault etc.

Well, if it went straight to depot it would have to continue, most probably empty, even if there might be a gauging issue.

Sorry has someone in the know stated it was a handle pull?

Pretty certain I didn't see anyone near it when it opened, can't be 100% though, they could've done it and legged it I suppose.

It was an egress activation, as someone else previously stated it happened at Addlestone so hardly surprising!

That doesn't necessarily mean someone from Addlestone did it?

It wont have happened with nobody near the door, the egress would have been pulled and the miscreant would have legged it, the interlock would not engage until the guard had closed the doors and reset the egress, no drama and no crisis.

Its not a software fault it is a deliberate design in case people need to get off a train quickly, unfortunately it is open to abuse.

I had a door fall off its runner at Basingstoke having not shut properly at Reading, terminated and ran empty to Eastleigh with the door hanging off. Although fully open and off its bottom runner, door was still attached to voyager when it got there!

Quite right but what I am saying is that if the door opened without the handle being pulled then there are big issues.

If that had happened the train wouldn't have moved until it was guaranteed all doors checked and secured on both sides. It's in the rule book. If someone had fallen out RAIB would have been notified. You don't need to keep justifying your point.......

If it was a train defect which I very much doubt then the train would be OOS anyway and empty to the park.

Agreed. It was ecs from wyb anyway but as you say couldn't continue if it were a fault.
What sort of door faults do these units normally get then, if they do? Just issues releasing/locking or something?
