Metrolink: Girl, 3, killed in crash between tram and van

Very sad news from Manchester today as a young girl was killed this morning after a van crashed into a tram. She was taken to hospital but sadly died from her injuries. The girl was a pedestrian and it's believed the van hit her as it rebounded off the tram. As per the Manchester Evening News:

Amtrak apologises for stranding 110 passengers at Union Station (26/12)

Not the first time it's happened at DC either. Someone's going to have a meeting sans tea and biscuits.

Southeastern Customer Service - Are They Right?

I’m currently travelling on an extremely delayed journey, thanks to Storm Dennis, using split tickets from Sheffield to Ore via Derby and Tamworth. One of my split tickets is an advance for the 20:37 service from St Pancras Int’l (STP) to Ore (ORE) via Ashford (AFK). I know I can just catch...

Man found stabbed to death on Marylebone bus.

A sad story. I presume all London buses are fitted with CCTV?

Fareham - Milton Keynes Central (16/01)

My mother-in-law and a friend are going down to Fareham on Friday and coming back up on the Saturday - Friday is fine with advances - however prices are extortionate for the return. Is there any way of bringing the price of a single Fareham - MKC ticket down? I did think of a DaySaver, but...

    171/8 on 1G34 1334 AFK - BTN yesterday

I was on 1G34 1333 Ashford Int'l (AFK) to Brighton (BTN) yesterday and was surprised to have a four car 171/8 instead of a two car /7 instead. Is this usual now in the summer, or was this due to stock failure? I ask, as I saw a /7 in the station siding at Eastbourne when I went down in the morning.

Purchasing discounted tickets without a railcard

I was purchasing tickets in advance today at Hastings, with the intent of purchasing my railcard on the day of travel. I was a bit surprised that the booking clerk said it wasn't permitted to sell tickets in advance if you didn't possess a railcard. I've had no problem buying discounted...

    Class 375 Luggage Areas

A few days ago I took a journey on a Class 375 (from Wadhurst to Robertsbridge, fact fans) and was surprised to see there was a large empty section at the end of one carriage reserved for luggage. Which units/subclass have this, and which vehicle are they in? I ask as I'm off on holiday soon...

Southeastern's Aptitude Tests (Customer Service Roles)

Has anybody else felt frustrated upon failing the multiple-choice scenario questions that Southeastern use to test potential customer service applicants? In particular, the cryptic "You have not passed" message with no further information on why and the ensuing six month ban from applying for...

    Station Partnerships

Has anybody had any experience running or being involved in one of these? Since my local station (Ore) is about as welcoming to passengers as an RPI at Mauldeth Road on Monday morning, and there's currently a lot of local activity on the voluntary organisation front, I was thinking there...

The Lone Ranger: Wessies through Crystal Palace and Irritating Escalators

We begin our journey at half five on a Saturday morning; the sky was a wonderful hue of purple, the seagulls chorusing annoyingly above like nature's own Go Compare advert. I was on my way to Ore station with a Southern DaySaver in my pocket, eating an egg banjo as I went. Healthy eater, that's...

Travelling on Advance Tickets - Illness

My family are due to be travelling home from Birmingham today. However my dad has been hospitalised. I'm taking the kids home while my parents remain here. We're travelling on advance tickets with a Family & Friends Railcard in my mum and dad's name - he's in hospital and she's remaining...

Virgin Trains - Seat Reservations and Luggage

Evening all. I'm booking tickets for a family holiday in October from Hastings to Birmingham New Street. I've identified a cheap fare and suitable route (Three adults and three children with a Family and Friends Railcard for £30.90 each way) which I'm happy with, but my real concern is right...

Brighton Station £5m remodelling work starts

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-21274813 Somewhat minor work compared to other stations, but it'll be nice to see happen all the same. Incidentally, can anyone date the image from the BUPA banner? I can not for the life of me ever remember seeing that. Mods, I couldn't see...
