I was purchasing tickets in advance today at Hastings, with the intent of purchasing my railcard on the day of travel. I was a bit surprised that the booking clerk said it wasn't permitted to sell tickets in advance if you didn't possess a railcard.
I've had no problem buying discounted tickets in advance with no railcard at other stations, including LOROL ones! Is this one of those policies that varies depending on the TOC ,or the clerk, or is inscribed in the ancient stone tablets of the famed guide? Is it worth writing into Southeastern?
In case you're wondering why I didn't just buy the railcard and tickets together on the 27th; blame a complicated financial situation for that. It would have had the added bonus of giving me a few days more validity.
