My mother-in-law and a friend are going down to Fareham on Friday and coming back up on the Saturday - Friday is fine with advances - however prices are extortionate for the return. Is there any way of bringing the price of a single Fareham - MKC ticket down?

I did think of a DaySaver, but Southern aren't selling them through their website for some reason.

There are four £5 Fareham-East Croydon Advances on the 1858 changing at Barnham. I haven't got time at the moment to check onward fares from Croydon to MKC.

Actually, you can get all the way to London Victoria for £5 each on the 1858 changing at Barnham. Arriving Victoria at 2122, you might make it to Euston in time for cheap £6 Advances on the 2154.

Edit: 32 minutes for Victoria-Euston should be fine in practice, even if it is less than the minimum interchange time which is set at 54 minutes for Victoria-Euston (with the result that there would be no obligation to let the party travel on a later train out of Euston if delays meant that the 2154 was missed).

They did that supposedly for the Christmas engineering works. I'll chase them up to see what's going on with the introduction of them again.

Thank you all very much. Eventually got it sorted - Fareham to Brighton, then an Advance from Brighton to Milton Keynes which I wouldn't have noticed without your help, Romilly, so thank you. :D

Thanks James, my M-i-L rang up Southern and they claimed it wasn't available because the computer systems for it were down... which surely DaySave doesn't have it's own system? I thought it was left over from the engineering works too.

They probably made the excuse about the engineering works, but the real reason is almost certainly that they forgot they sold them, and they were only available on their old WebTIS ticket website, and the new one doesn't sell them...

I was going to be charitable and say that may it wasn't down to incompetence... but then I got the booking confirmation...

Thats exactly what one of the team said to me on Twitter, they are looking to reinstate asap, it was down to the booking engine.
