    Quarantine

So playing devil’s advocate: 93% OF CORONA TESTS ARE POINTLESS, SAYS BORIS! Daily Blurb I do completely understand your point, but where do these percentages come from? Does it mean that if you have a CV test on a plane of 100 people, and you are positive, but six are not, then you are one...

    Buying Senior Railcard

I’m 60 soon and tried a dummy run setting my birthday as a week from now. It said ‘enter a valid date of birth e.g. 22/1/2003’. Oh. I’ll try again when I get home.

When schools return - impact on buses

Waited 40 minutes for a bus as one after another went past ‘bus full’. The problem is that even though there are dedicated school services, many students use ‘service’ buses, which are running at half capacity.

    UK face coverings discussion

As I work for a charitable college, I don’t think the guidance would apply to us the same as ‘state’ schools. However, no staff wear masks and about two out of a hundred students have chosen to wear them.

East Witton in North Yorkshire also has a Blue Lion pub, rather an unusual name.

How much longer will social distancing go on for in the UK?

Not ‘can’t follow’ but ‘don’t see the point in following’.

Now EMR are confirmed as operators of Liverpool-Notts, what stock could be used?

And yet TPE have largely moved to 6-car on the TPE south route. Apologies if it has been mentioned before, but how many train diagrams ( if that’s the correct term) would be needed to run Nottingham to Liverpool?

Covid : Infection rates v death rates and a possible second wave

In the worst possible case, according to the graph you included, males over 90 had about a 1 in 60 chance of dying with Covid.

Was life better under Lockdown ?

Not quite on topic, but with Somerset CC’s grass-cutting team having been presumably redeployed on putting signs and stickers everywhere, the roadside verges are a glorious riot of wild flowers.

How much longer will social distancing go on for in the UK?

I think in those establishments you may have to be quite rich to have fifteen minutes of close contact. I hope the girls keep the money put in their underwear in a box for three days :)

    London - Where is Everyone?

I was amazed how busy the Bull Ring centre in Brum was today at about 1400, and also the buses serving it. Unfortunately I have no idea what it is normally like.

    UK face coverings discussion

I think a lot of primary age kids will be like ‘why can’t I have a mask like you mummy/daddy?’ Just some general observations from today. In the Cabot Centre in Bristol and the Bull Ring in Brum, although there were signs saying to wear them throughout the centres, I would say it was 50/50...

Monsal Trail: Potential plan to turn viaduct into railway opposed

I was walking down Cheddar Gorge yesterday and it was fantastic apart from the fact a road runs down it. Now just imagine there wasn’t a road and somebody proposed to build one. There would be an outcry from everybody. The last train on this line ran in 1968. I’m nearly 60 and I can’t remember...

Monsal Trail: Potential plan to turn viaduct into railway opposed

The quarries at Hope, Peak Dale and Hindlow are already linked by rail and use it as an environmentally friendly way of moving stone and cement. The other quarries which are not linked to rail are around Longcliffe, which this proposal would not affect. A genuine question: where are the main...

Monsal Trail: Potential plan to turn viaduct into railway opposed

Given it will have taken eight years to build a loop at Bamford to improve passenger services and freight on the Hope Valley line, I don’t see much hope for this one (pun intended)
