New Job Support Scheme announced to replace Furlough scheme from 1 November

I don’t know the nuances of this scheme, but I would have thought a lot of workers in the hospitality industry would be on minimum wage anyway. A bar staff I know said she usually got about £10 in tips a night, so obviously this will disappear.

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

I am not doubting you, but where is your source that you will not be able to move out of a ‘red’ area? I live in what I think will be red, so does that mean I can’t go to work?

    UK face coverings discussion

I am in the Howard Arms in Sheffield at the moment having a relaxing glass of wine after work. I am delighted that putting my mask on to walk to the toilet ten yards away and back will stop this deadly virus. There are three other people in on a Thursday in what is normally a busy pub...

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

Who knows? This virus has behaved in unexpected ways. It seems to have a relatively high death rate (compared with Spanish and ‘normal ‘ flu) amongst older people that wasn’t expected initially which led to a high death rate in care homes, which Sweden has admitted they cocked up - we haven’t...

Should we improve communication of restrictions?

I think I am like many people on here (or perhaps Rail UK users are better informed) and everybody in general, that I haven’t got a clue about all these rules. I realise it personally in that the next forum meal I will be going to is limited to six, but if the area gets put into special rules...

Cineworld closing all cinemas until Spring due to COVID impacting film releases

No Time to Die is not the greatest title for a film at the moment.

    Settlement Association

All Alone was a pigeon who transported an important message in World War Two from Vienna to Staines. Trafalgar Square, in London, is greatly associated with pigeons.

Is there a growing sense of apathy over the virus restrictions

Although I think they are pointless, I don’t find a mask difficult to wear. Last night I forgot I had it on and walked home from the station with it on without realising! Back to the topic, I notice in Doncaster Interchange, about 66% of schoolkids don’t wear masks till they get on the bus...

    Trivia: Most Hostile Bus Routes

^ I think pubs all not chucking out at the same time has helped.

    Rate your local bus service/company!

First South Yorkshire - 7/10. Buses are a bit tatty, but are usually on time, great staff. Would be 8, but they are putting empty deckers on school routes, and single deckers on service routes that are used by children at the moment. Hope they sort it next week. Stagecoach East Midlands - 9/10...

Depends if you class the 399s as trams or trains :)

Trivia - UK constituency with no railway

Caithness, which includes Wick, is one constituency. I did think Orkney and Shetland, but there used to be a railway on Orkney.

Covid : Infection rates v death rates and a possible second wave

I don’t often agree with Donald Trump, but it does seem to be that the more people you test, the more people you find infected. At that meat plant in Cornwall, they seem to have tested everybody, found a lot of positives, but a lot had no symptoms. Where I work, there was an outbreak of...

    Quarantine

Was I dreaming a post somewhere that Germany insisted from today a 14-day quarantine if you came from Wales or NI? It could have been a literal dream, I’ve been sleeping funny.
