Problems with trainline: "open return" fares only being valid for one day

It must have been before 1993, as I looked at the National Fares Manual for that year yesterday

Problems with trainline: "open return" fares only being valid for one day

A bit off topic but, in 1996: - tickets to London International were all (apart from "Leisure" ones) valid for two months - FOS and SOS and SVS tickets were only valid for one day (not two days, like now); other than if the journey could not be completed on day one - FOR, SOR, SVR tickets were...

Back to the office - best source of tickets?

If a season is available on the route then a Flexi Season will also be available. Whether it will represent good value for money is another question... It will be available as a smartcard ticket, but not as a barcode ticket, because of the lack of digital support by Mderseyrail.

Are you obliged to ‘rush’ to make your cross-London tube connection?

It works both ways. If you arrive, on time, at Redhill P3 at the back of a 12-car train, and want to make a connecting train on P1, which will also be at the far end potentially, then you have to walk around 500m in 3 minutes. Which most people can't do. No delay repay though, if everything was...

It’s up to you. Officially you can’t make it.

Are you obliged to ‘rush’ to make your cross-London tube connection?

The connection time from Paddington to st Pancras at this time of the day is 15 + 20 + 15 = 50 minutes. If you arrive at Paddington at 20.45 then you can’t make the 21.32 from st Pancras and so may claim delay repay if you do fail to make that train.

Midlands Connect case for direct trains between Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham

For the M18 / M1 spur (which connects Sheffield to Doncaster) the traffic numbers are only about two thirds of the M69: https://roadtraffic.dft.gov.uk/manualcountpoints/28247 Yet there are frequent direct XC, TPE and Northern trains between the two places (with people travelling from Sheffield...

Affordable tickets for the Caledonian Sleeper?

No, this is incorrect; I've provided the answer above. Fares that are set by Caledonian Sleeper cannot be discounted with the 26-30 railcard. Fares that are not set by CS can be discounted with the 26-30 railcard. This does not reduce their validity - they can still be used on CS. Of course, a...

    What is a train?

A key point is that trains don't have steering wheels, as they are guided by the rails. This is often news to kids* (in my experience) and leads to a few more questions. *some adults too
