"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

I have to say I find many of the posts on this thread to be utterly depressing. Like many people I think the health & Safety culture has gone way way too far. Everything we do has risk, to try and eliminate all risk is totally impossible, and, on the way to trying to do that, costs an absolute...

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

Some people may have problems climbing onto a platform, whether they have mobility problems, or are just short and/or of limited strength, I accept that. Such people should not try and retrieve an object from the tracks next to a railway platform. Having said that, at the point where the phone...

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

I reckon a person (let`s say a member of staff rather than me so as to bypass a load of other issues) could get down and retrieve a phone in comfortably less than 10 seconds. Standing on the platform you would be able to see whether a train was approaching for way over 10 seconds worth of travel...

I have already answered this :

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

Why exactly ? Surely we`re into the concept of statistical risk. Can you tell me statistically, at how much risk I, or anyone else, would be if they retrieved a phone from a railway line ? This is what should be considered whenever any Health & Safety edict is issued : Exactly how much...

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

You can easily see any train approaching, only an imbecilic idiot would actually jump down onto the tracks as a train approached.

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

Sorry, but this is absolute rubbish. If you travel down the ECML to Scrooby, somewhere I regularly go with my son, it is actually acceptable (and rightly so) to cross the ECML where the speed limit is 125mph ? Why is it deemed perfectly acceptable, certainly totally "legal", for me to cross...

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

The point is, that if a train was approaching someone on the tracks (say they were unconscious) at 5 or 10mph one assumes the driver would see them and stop.

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

I was at Doncaster station with my three year old yesterday and he threw my phone on the track. Very annoying, but it was what happened after that which was potentially more worrying. I was tempted to just jump down and get it, it`d only have taken about 5 to 10 seconds, but I was concerned...

Settle to Carlisle closed : is a NE Rover then valid via the WCML ?

    I don`t like bus travel, that`s why I`m buying a Rail Rover !

Settle to Carlisle closed : is a NE Rover then valid via the WCML ?

I take it there`s no chance of the S&C being opened in the next few weeks then ? ! ?

Settle to Carlisle closed : is a NE Rover then valid via the WCML ?

I`m thinking of getting a North East Rover in June but the Settle Carlisle is still closed. Does that mean I can use an alternative route (on the NE Rover) via Manchester and the WCML when travelling from Sheffield to Carlisle ?

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

Like the majority of people I don`t even know what most of that means. Do you work in IT ? Or have a genuine interest in it, what I mean is an interest in IT itself (as opposed to soley what IT can do for you, which is the attitude of the vast majority of people) ? Personally I just buy a PC and...

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

We`ll see shall we ? In my experience software becomes out of date and / or unsupported far faster than anyone could imagine. And, more importantly, it becomes out of date / unsupported far quicker than the vast majority of people (other than those who work in IT) actually want....... But the...

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

I made a bit of a stressful discovery..... I thought Sod it I`ll just use last years Summer TT, it`ll probably be pretty similar. I then discovered I`d thrown it away because we`ve just moved and I thought "I`ll be getting a new one in a few weeks !". Only I`m not.... I phoned Middleton`s and...

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

Funnily enough I`ve just been in the phone to Middleton`s to pay my bill. They said they definitely did not want to stop producing the printed full timetable despite the fact that it gives them loads of headaches due to inaccurate data and unhelpfulness from Network Rail. They did not stop...

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

It isn`t odd, it`s perfectly possible. I find it easier, I think most people would say it was easier, to plan complicated itineraries when looking at various printed copies of the full timetable. As for "joining the 20th century", I think that`s a bit of a personal slight. I do not want a smart...

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

Thanks for that BA. The problem being that it`d be far too big and weigh far too much to take out with you, apart from the cost per page of printing it !

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I have been buying the Middleton Press printed UK rail timetable for years now but they`ve stopped doing it now. They just do a Great Britain section of the European timetable instead. This is of some value but not really suitable for when one is...
