All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

So you did count it if you changed trains at the station ? If so, I agree, my definition is the same as yours. The only grey area is a terminating service, I don`t count that as the same train even though it`s the same rolling stock.

All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

I think that`s acceptable, it`s even acceptable to use a taxi or your own car, but, IMHO, you have to actually catch a train (or alight from one which has come from somewhere else), in order to count it as using that station. To me, getting on an all stations stopper and then getting off the...

All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

I think the blame may lie with HIGNFY, using the term "visit".

All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

I thought it`d be something like that, though I have to say that`s stretching the definition of "visiting a station" way beyond what I`d accept.

All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

Sorry if this question has already been answered in this (long) thread, but, as reported on HIGNFY, are they supposed to be visiting all the stations in the UK in 15 weeks ? And if so what definition of "visiting" are they using ? I had a thread about this very subject a few years back and came...

Railcard up to 30 years old, is it only available on a smart phone ?

I agree entirely. It`s not acceptable for, effectively, the government to do that. A private company subject to full competition maybe, they should be able to choose what customers they deal with, but that`s not what we`re talking about here at all.

Railcard up to 30 years old, is it only available on a smart phone ?

What ! You`re saying it`s acceptable that someone would have to buy a smart phone in order to access (effectively) a national service. I can`t believe you`re serious, are you sure you`re not just trying to annoy ?

Railcard up to 30 years old, is it only available on a smart phone ?

Did I hear right that this new railcard (for people up to the age of 30) will only be available on a smartphone ? That is to say people without a smartphone will not be able to have one ? If that`s right that`s an absolute disgrace. We must remember we`re effectively talking a semi nationalised...

Printed copy of the full British Rail timetable

A bit of good news ! With reference to this thread from last Summer, the printed copy of the full National Rail timetable is now available again from Middleton Press. It`s an expensive (£26 + carriage) and weighty tome but I`m still buying one ! Out of interest it`s in two volumes and it`s...

Tram trains and voltage changeover procedures.

I think you`re right. Which begs another question, are neutral sections always on the flat (or a slight downhill in the normal direction of travel) ?

Tram trains and voltage changeover procedures.

So what would, on the uphill slope, if the train coasted to a stop (in the neutral section) before it reached the changed current section ? Would it not have to reverse (which I thought was a big no no on the railways) to regain power, then have to "take a run at" the neutral section ?

Tram trains and voltage changeover procedures.

Thanks for that, very interesting. Would the slope be a different way for each direction (up and down line) ? That is to say the slope is always down in the direction of travel. If so, what would happen on single lines ? If the slope wasn`t always down in the direction of travel, what would...

Tram trains and voltage changeover procedures.

I was travelling between Rotherham and Doncaster yesterday and noticed all the electrification masts going in for the (severely delayed) tram train to Parkgate. The new tram trains appear to be dual voltage 25kV ac and 750 dc, is that correct ? If it is how do they change over ? On Thameslink...

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

I can`t remember ever seeing a train go through there at any speed I`d call fast. Does anyone know what the speed limit is at Doncaster on the track next to platform 8 ? --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I don`t consider you have.

I don`t think it is irrelevant at all :

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

That is the most correct point you make. But the preceeding one [pedestrians who can unfailingly know what route they will take along the road (i.e. on the rails)] I also agree with. In fact, isn`t that what I said ? On the subject of the brakes, I agree that trams have more efficient brakes...

"Do not go on the track" : is this all going too far.......

I agree with this completely. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Is anyone going to answer this ? Or is the inconsistency unarguable and therefore the response is filed as "too difficult", let`s just ignore it.
