    "Above Ground" Piccadilly train poster

I think I've seen them on sale at the London Transport Museum Depot Open Days on the Friends stall. Not sure how recently though. These would be posters that were made to be put up on trains or at stations rather than reproductions. If you can make it to the next one in April it may be worth...

Should all major stations have a pub?

Craft ale is never a solution to anything! Central Milton Keynes does suffer from a lack of good pubs but there are currently 4 Wetherspoons 2 of which are 5 and 10 minutes walk from the station. The station area itself is, however, bereft of bars of any sort. Hopefully, we'll still be able...

Refused access to Birmingham Lounge with York - Winchester ticket

Yes, we all get the 'Perk v Right' issue. Keep banging on about that as much as you like - everyone understands it. Or do you just think we're all also a bunch of thick morons because we'd like to see a bit of clarity and consistency?

Refused access to Birmingham Lounge with York - Winchester ticket

Back to the start again. The issue is the rules aren't clear and seem to change each time someone asks what they are. This latest: "A 'Virgin' ticket, basically means that part or all of the journey will be travelling with Virgin Trains. If you tickets states this then access to the...

Should all major stations have a pub?

Doric Arch is OK as is the Euston Flyer, but I always use the Bree Louise, about a minute or so's walk away from Euston. Decent food, extensive range of real ales and ciders plus 50p discount on a pint and £2 off their pies for CAMRA members (and students and teachers and military and Emergency...

Should all major stations have a pub?

Not necessarily on the stations as those pubs tend to charge way over the odds compared to the local area. I never use the Tap pubs for that reason, if there's similar quality beer around a couple of minutes walk away then why bother? If not, I'll just not have a beer at all. I always use...

How long can you break a journey?

You can leave at Oxford Circus to do your shopping but you would then not be able to resume your journey at Oxford Circus. You would have to resume your journey at Paddington, making your own way there at your own expense (if not walking) from Oxford Circus.

You can't break your journey at all on an Advance ticket

The tube at a standstill: why TfL stopped people walking up the escalators

Obviously, but you've got 4 lanes of traffic queuing up behind so it takes longer to clear.

The tube at a standstill: why TfL stopped people walking up the escalators

Dropping the speed limit for passing traffic is useful - as long as the traffic can pass. With 4 lanes in use and no hard shoulder, there's nowhere to move the immobile vehicles to so it takes longer to get the traffic moving again. Just my experience of both types of smart motorway - the M1...

The tube at a standstill: why TfL stopped people walking up the escalators

Yes, they're demonstrably fine when the traffic is flowing (as you'd expect with an extra lane) but if there's an accident then my experience is that the effect is much worse than on a traditional "Stupid Motorway".

    Kirkstall Forge & Apperley Bridge

The Idle Youth Centre always made me laugh too. It think it clsoed down due to apathy.

16:30 London Euston to Glasgow express - gone from May 2016

Obviously not useless to everyone, the 530 Ex Euston has always been well loaded when I've boarded at Milton Keynes Central.

    Traffic Light Sequencing

A couple of years back, I noticed that over a couple of weeks the tailback at traffic lights on the A10 between the M25 and the North Circular Road had suddenly increased on the Friday evenings I travelled along the route - whereas previously I'd had to wait at most one cycle I was experiencing...

London Railtours - Is it possible to visit every terminus?

Accessed via King's Cross (York Road) rather than the Thameslink route. Both King's Cross (York Road) and King's Cross St Pancras Thameslink are now closed so you couldn't visit either. Also the Moorgate branch is now inaccessible from the Thameslink route. So you would need to add calls at...
