Top four most inane TV programmes

From my many years of TV viewing: 1=. Small Wonder 1=. Duty Free 1=. Pig in the Middle 1=. My Two Dads I'm surprised at the number who dislike Pointless. Really it's just a non-railway version of those railuk threads that go something like "Name the most unusable station"...

    Least useable station?

I think Ardwick fits the bill on both counts.

    Penrith to Irlam confusion

If you're using Virgin's website the default is to offer 2 singles. There's some small text at the bottom of the screen to check for other possibly cheaper fares from "other operators" - the definition of which usually includes Virgin's own cheaper return fares if there are any.

Bradford Interchange vs Bradford Forster Square

Had the Exchange station building lasted just a couple of years longer it would probably still be there. Maybe not as a station though. Before electrification, Forster Square only had trains to Ilkley and Keighley (maybe Skipton) and occasional summer weekend trains to/from Morecambe ( but I...

Bradford Interchange vs Bradford Forster Square

The Wortley curve. Continued well into HST days. 740 M-F off Bradford Interchange iirc. Also picked up at New Pudsey so obviously no problems with the platform length back then.

    Pricey food outlets at stations

Even that's gone up by 25% in just over a year. Inflation was max 3% over the same period.

West Coast Main Line - First Class Lounges (Chester, Preston and Milton Keynes)

Missing the point that the 390s don't stop at MKC in peak times when people do their commuting. And the 'almost as fast' LM services do not exist in the morning peak. As I said before the 3xVT fasts heading south off peak are bunched in 15 minute window and two of them 3 minutes apart so may...

West Coast Main Line - First Class Lounges (Chester, Preston and Milton Keynes)

Didn't expect you to agree. Long distance passengers travel to/from other places than London. The point about heading North is that we used to have a lot more options throughout the day other than Manchester and Chester. Obviously you don't recall the WCML rebuild that led to all this. I...

West Coast Main Line - First Class Lounges (Chester, Preston and Milton Keynes)

I suppose I should have said they despise their former customers - those who used to be able to catch the trains that stopped here in the peaks or those who used to get to anywhere north of Crewe/Manchester without having to change trains or take the time penalty of travelling via Birmingham...

West Coast Main Line - First Class Lounges (Chester, Preston and Milton Keynes)

My experience is that Virgin despise their Milton Keynes customers so would not consider offering them anything in the way of extras. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Fortunately, this week we're moving in to offices with their own parking only 5 minutes from MKC station so I...

    Riverside pub southbank

and the Town of Ramsgate (also in Wapping) Did a mini pub crawl in the area last Summer - 3 of the 4 claim to be the oldest pub on the Thames if I recall. Think The Mayflower was my favourite followed by The Prospect but a tough call.

I thought retention tanks were designed to avoid that particular issue.

Will any companies post tickets using standard mail?

Doesn't stop them posting it through a different door with the same number. Happens to me all the time, keep getting a photo of a blue door when mine is white. Fortunately, I know which blue door it is so can walk round and retrieve my mail. Except when the people who live there have gone on...

Eek been given reservation for Northern connecting service

Surely, if your inbound train is late causing you to miss your connection then you've a right to be carried on the next train and, as you'll be delayed by an hour, you'll be liable for some sort of compensation too. To make doubly sure, try booking assistance at Piccadilly. If your inbound...
