What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

Stevenage is a particular problem, it's so bad that unless I'm using an undiscounted Anytime ticket I never use the barriers. The reality is so many people are having their tickets manually inspected that the staff just wave people through. It actually results in fewer ticket checks taking...

    Thameslink prosecution

Welcome to the forum! Legally speaking you are required to possess a valid ticket for your journey before you board a train, and boarding the train without a ticket is a criminal offence. There are some exceptions to this but they are unlikely to apply in this case. Buying the ticket as an...

    Letter of £131 Settlement offer

We're in danger of getting into speculative discussion here, but while I agree the current legal framework around ticketing irregularities needs urgent review there will always be more than one way of dealing with something. This isn't unique to the railway, it happens everywhere. Take driving...

Is an annual season ticket worth it?

They should post it out to you. You need to visut an Underground station and ask a member if staff to add the discount to your Oyster card. A TfL Visitor Centre can also do it.

    Accidentally boarded with expired Railcard

Was an incorrect address given? Chiltern typically take a couple of months to research your online ticket purchasing history, and given that Christmas holidays have got in the way, I wouldn’t be too concerned yet. I’d give it a few more weeks before reaching out.

    Railcard fraud

Welcome to the forum! What type of ticket did you have? Was it a credit card sized paper ticket or an e-ticket shown on a phone? If it was an e-ticket and the inspector scanned the barcode then the train company can get the details of the account it was ourchased from. EMR are likely to...

    Letter of £131 Settlement offer

Welcome to the forum! Legally speaking, you are required to possess a valid ticket for your journey before you board the train, if ticket purchasing facilities exist at the station where you start your journey. There are some exceptions to this but they're not relevant in this case. Based on...

Is an annual season ticket worth it?

A season ticket loan is normally interest free but it's not salary sacrifice so there's no tax or National Insurance saving.

Middle Class Dilemma: I'm on an advance ticket changing at Leeds, but I want to go to Pret a Manger. Advice?

How did you get on? I've never been refused entry/exit in these sort of circumstances. I simply say 'can I pop to get some supplies?' or 'can I go for a smoke'. One thing I never do is start getting technical and mentioning 'break of journey'.

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

Although not documented anywhere, I don’t think train operators should be expecting anyone to allow more time to get through any ticket inspections, train boarding process etc than that stations minimum interchange time.

Delay repay on return limited to single journey.

Not if you’re at a standstill on a motorway. I’ve been caught up in motorway delays where we haven’t moved an inch for 1-2 hours. No chance of seeking out an alternative route and no delay repay either ;)

    South Eastern Rail- Fare Evasion

Your reply really should’ve referenced the specific conditions in the NRCoT that I referenced earlier. I fear they will offer you an out of court settlement costing £150 plus the fare at the full Anytime rate, rather than an excess costing the difference between the appropriate fares. Let us...

    SOUTHEASTERN PROSECUTION RESPONSE

21 days is the time for you to reply to them. It will take them a few weeks for them to get back to you, especially as Southeastern's offices are likely to be closed until the New Year.

    South Eastern Rail- Fare Evasion

I'm assuming that the journey you made on 19th December was from Ramsgate to London St Pancras, you held a ticket that was valid for the journey other than it being a time restricted ticket. In this situation section 9.5 of the National Rail Conditions of Travel is very clear about how it...

Expired railcard Notice of Intention to prosecute letter.

Welcome to the forum! It looks as though you're dealing with Chiltern Railways. As long as you co-operate with them they will almost certainly offer you an out of court settlement but expect to pay the cost of all the journeys made since the railcard expired at the full Anytime rate, with no...

Disabled Person’s Rail Card vs Two Together Rail Card

That's right. If you qualify, then the Disabled Persons Railcard is a no-brainer. Much more useful than the Two Together.

Fraud Investigations, GA "short journey" tickets...

Welcome to the forum! The principle here is that purchasing tickets isn't illegal but using them illegally is. Greater Anglia have conducted a data trawl that indicates a journey pattern that doesn't look right and have contacted you about it. The issue is can Greater Anglia link these journeys...

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

I would do this if a Gold Card disocunted Super Off Peak Day Travelcard could be loaded to a smartcard, which it can't.

Letter Received (Travel Fraud Investigation) - Help needed

Did you give an incorrect address? If you did give an incorrect address are you able to access post sent to it? If you can't then I suggest contacting their Prosecutions Department and explaining the situation but I'd wait until the New Year as I suspect their offices will be closed for...

Unable to use card to collect tickets from machine

That sometimes does work but not at Stevenage. It simply comes up 'Termination of Vending Process' as sonn as you insert a card.
