    PlusBus Tickets

Of course. I once got issued a PlusBus with a railcard discount. It was a Young Persons one and i was well into 40s. The guard had made the error and said ”see if they notice as I bet they don’t”. They were correct as bus drivers only look at the date and PlusBus on the ticket. I felt like a...

    PlusBus Tickets

Yes I was impressed with that. Just can’t use it for the last couple of miles to the airport which is fine as I never fly into or out of Edinburgh but I would like to tick the track off at some point. Nottingham, Sheffield and West Midlands also accept PusBus on their tram networks. The latter...

    PlusBus Tickets

I always ask the guard to print my PlusBus on card rather than paper for this very reason. Either the bus driver hasn’t seen a toilet roll printed one before, or they ask me to scan the barcode that isn’t going to work  If they aren’t carrying the card printer, I usually buy it from...

    Cambridge v Oxford

See I was never that impressed with Oxford. Was to the point of disappointing if I’m honest. Cambridge seems to ooze prosperity.

    Cambridge v Oxford

Both Addenbrooke’s and Papworth are directly beside Cambridge South station. 1749760843 Tourism for Cambridge which seems further away for historical reasons isn’t so important now that so much leisure and retail is located around the station.

    Cambridge v Oxford

Having driven trains into Cambridge since 2004 it’s phenomenal the growth that I’ve seen. My mate was brought up in Shelford and even 10 years ago was amazed at the growth and difference from his days there in the 80s & 90s. It just goes from strength to strength. The retail around the station...

    Cambridge v Oxford

Cambridge has a booming economy with some excellently well paid jobs in the biomedical campus around Addenbrooke’s and Papworth hence Cambridge South station. Add that to the never ending tourist industry and the easy commuting to London and it’s not difficult to see why it’s so successful.

    Are some trains too long?

Probably just the easiest operationally. We don’t get very involved in what happens on the west side.

    Are some trains too long?

Nothing shown of any alterations to stock diagrams on the West.

    Shoes/boots recommendations for driver

I’ve bought Sketchers Workwear for the last few years and been impressed. Not keen on the complimentary footwear offered by my TOC. We get £30 expenses towards them which covers about 50% of the cost. Steel toecaps.

Cross Country Voyagers - rear set locked out of use?

Does it depend on individual staffing agreements between unions and management?

Which railway lines are the least used in this country?

No East Anglian (or any UK for that matter) branch is profitable and wouldn't be expected to be. During the early 1980s BR wanted to close the Reedham-Yarmouth single line on maintenance grounds but Yarmouth Borough Council stumped up £300k towards the cost of renewing some track/sleepers.

Cross Country Voyagers - rear set locked out of use?

No, it’s nothing that I have ever heard of here at GA. Sounds like an excuse not to socialise with the people in question
