    What's your latest acquisition?

Just acquired a new Hornby Mk4 DVT. Bit more than I would like to pay for what is essentially a coach with headlights, but it's a lot better than the original DVT from the 90's! Starting to build-up a rake of Mk4s to await the arrival of the Accurascale class 89 next year. I've also managed to...

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

The 'baker' in the store doesn't use any such ingredients. All the baguettes and rolls etc arrive frozen and are chucked in the oven for 15 minutes or so to finish them off. I used to be one of such bakers!

Petrol and diesel prices - how much have you been paying?

Yes, it is a bit odd! Here in South Surrey, we have a Texaco, Shell, Esso & 2 Supermarkets. The Supermarkets were always the cheapest and Texaco was always the most expensive (sometimes almost 10p more than the supermarkets), with Shell & Esso in the middle. All of a sudden, Texaco is now our...

    What's your latest acquisition?

Is it the 'wheel flat' issue or something else? Mine had the wheel flat issue and I found 2 small lumps of resin on one of the wheels. Pinged it off with small blade and it runs smoothly now.

    What's your latest acquisition?

Surprised no one else has posted about these, but I received my Accurascale Deltic this week. What a stunning model, so much detail, some of which is rather fragile! I had some running issues initially due to the coupling jamming on reverse curves, but I've rectified that and it's settled down...

RMT announce strike dates across range of TOCs and Network Rail

I'm booked on the entire journey of the southbound Highland Chieftain on the 24th (Between strike days), 1st time I've ever booked first class as well. That will probably turn into an interesting day now. Was thinking about booking rail travel to the Yorkshire Dales in October (journey I've done...

    What's your latest acquisition?

I'll be keeping an eye out for further bargains on scale length Mk3's to enable withdrawal of the short coaches. I'll admit, it does look a bit odd with varying coach lengths through the formation.

    What's your latest acquisition?

Finally managed to get hold of some GNER Mk3's without spending a small fortune (only paid 99p for one of them, albeit it's minus bogies which I happened to have spares for) HST rake now at 6 coaches, which looks must better than just a pair of Hornby 'short' ones!

Project Sunrise: Sydney to New York or London Nonstop

Just a small correction, BA currently operates the Sydney route with a B787 as well. Don't know if there are any plans to switch back to 777

Project Sunrise: Sydney to New York or London Nonstop

It can be cheaper to make a stop as you have a better chance of being fully loaded, as you are offering more flights. (for example) London - Sydney, London - Singapore and Singapore - Sydney all in one route. Overall fuel burn, believe it or not, is actually reduced when you stop as the aircraft...

Project Sunrise: Sydney to New York or London Nonstop

Only 238 seats, so I can't see it being particularly cheap!

The ethics of the USA dropping nuclear weapons on Japan in 1945.

That would of been the best solution, however the Allies (rightly or wrongly) would only accept unconditional surrender. The atom bombs forced Japan to make that declaration. However bad it sounds, the bombs were the best of an utterly horrendous situation. The death toll would of been immense...

    Model Rail Bargains & Sales

Easter Sale on at Model Railways Direct, including the new tool Bachmann 47's for £167 https://www.modelrailwaysdirect.co.uk/store/search.asp?keyword=SpecialOffersOO

    What's your latest acquisition?

Recently acquired a Bachmann 121 from TMC sale. It's one that they have done a weathering job on, so it sits nicely with my 117 that I weathered myself. The job they've done isn't bad (fairly basic weathering, but that was to be expected for £93 all in), but I was fairly disappointed that they...

    New covid symptoms

Off topic, but I'll explain a bit further. The first stage (ie 2 sickness in 3 months) is quite literally just a very quick, informal meeting with your manager to tell you you've gone onto a stage. There is no punishment, no formal meeting and it's nothing unusual. If there is genuine evidence...

    New covid symptoms

Unfortunately, they can. They just can't do it too regularly. As an example, in my company if you have 2 periods of sickness in 3 months, you go onto a 'stage', and if you are sick more regularly you go up the stages (I think to 4), and you can then be sacked. Therefore, you can have Covid every...

    New covid symptoms

They do, but the excuse of feeling a bit rough/a cold is nowhere near as good as "I've tested positive for COVID". When the government requirement to self isolate was in force at my place of work, being sick with COVID didn't count towards your sick record. Amazing how many people 'caught'...

Advice on what new car to buy.

Another vote for the Sandero. As basic as you can get today and based on older technology, so in theory it's 'proven' and all the kinks should be sorted out. 44 years of daily driving is rather impressive. Out of curiosity, how many miles has it done?

    A380s coming back

A380's have 175m3 of cargo space, a much more efficient 787-9 has 172m3. Bear in mind that BA A380's have the crew rest in the cargo hold as well, so there is actually even less space. I wasn't saying they weren't only carrying freight, but if there was no need to increase crew hours as well...

    A380s coming back

The A380 on the Frankfurt route will be adhoc. The flights are used to quickly increase crew cycles so they are ready for when all the 380's come back (whenever that may be). It is certainly not solely for freight, A380's are awful at that.
