The 73 may well still be, however the Thumper is certainly not!

Flight Tracking Services - Interesting Observations

Looks like fr24 has lost the real time position data for the moment, with all the aircraft now showing as going to their destination as the crow flies

Alternative solutions for the Marston Vale Line

The Hastings diesel can be reduced to two cars, however would have to be two motor coaches so capacity would be reduced somewhat. Should be able to keep to timings fairly easily though with 1000hp!

The future of private car ownership and the potential applications of electric trucks?

My local council is trialling them (or about to) at the moment. Also makes bin collection a bit quieter!

Ultra Low Emissions Zone to cover all of London

Correct, but the prices of ULEZ compliant cars will go up at a much greater rate than others due to the demand there is going to be. There's also going to be a glut of non-compliant cars coming to the market, perhaps keeping their resale values lower. In reality for me though, my car has just...

Ultra Low Emissions Zone to cover all of London

Petrol vehicles are fine as long as they meet euro 4 standards (mandated in 2005, but many earlier cars met the regulations before they were implemented. The main issue is diesel vehicles as they need to meet euro 6 standards. The vast majority of diesel cars built before 2015 are non-compliant...

New Car Tyres - Cuts etc

I'm assuming that the first photo is of the tyre they replaced? If not, I'd get that replaced as you shouldn't have that sort of damage to the tyre sidewall. As for the rest of them, it all looks like marks you get in tyres from running over gravel etc. They don't look very deep at all and are...

Faulty E Bay locos, is it just me who is unlucky with these ?

I buy plenty of stuff off eBay, but only really coaches and wagons. I have bought one locomotive, a Lima Class 73. When it arrived, one bogie was jammed so it wasn't able to run! However, as with you, it got sent back and the body transferred to a different chassis so all was good in the end. I...

    OO gauge Suburban Overhead EMUs

It really needs one of the manufacturers to bite the bullet and release one and see how it goes. We didn't really have any third rail EMU's until Bachmann went for the CEP. That sold well, and now we are pretty well off for SR types. (EPB, VEP, BIL, HAL, BEL, MLV, BEP, HAP, TC, Thumper)

Why are aeroplane doors still manually closed?

For emergencies, all doors have a powered opening assist (usually a compressed gas bottle) that flings the door open. With the door in automatic, all the cabin crew have to do is rotate the main handle and then the bottle will fire and fling the door open, very closely followed by the slide...

    What's your latest acquisition?

It is indeed. Glad it got saved in the end. Normal sound version. The rotating fans really do 'make' the model, but for an extra 60 odd pounds, I can't really justify it.

    What's your latest acquisition?

Just taken delivery of the new Bachmann class 47. Not a model I was ever intending to buy, but they had to release 47376 'Freightliner 1995' in Freightliner grey. I have an old Hornby version of this locomotive from my childhood, so I obviously had to get the up to date version! Went for the...

Do you have any model railway projects on the go?

Thumper centre coach complete. Lighting is a bit off, as I didn't manage to salvage the original and had to make a new light strip (blew the original LED's!). New lights are a bit brighter and a bit more orange, but it looks the part so that's all what matters really. 1666439254 GLV finished...

Why were most past DMUs designed as DMUs rather than DEMUs?

The Class 210 prototypes (1982) were built with above floor power units, so I'd assume not!

What and when were the last passenger trains in service with unlocked doors.

On national rail, it may well have been a 12-VEP formation on 26th November 2005. Operated a peak AM working in place of the usual Electrostars as a farewell. Trains with unlocked doors were banned from carrying passengers (without additional procedures) on the mainline after 30th November...

News and updates on model railway products

Were the short Mk3s a mistake though? I always thought they were made as a compromise so they could go round train set curves (1st radius)

Do you have any model railway projects on the go?

Detailing and transfers complete on the GLV. Just some light weathering to do and then rebuild. The end is finally in sight. Thumper centre car isn't far behind, just needs a couple of extra layers on the body sides to finish the livery off

Do you have any model railway projects on the go?

Used an airbrush mostly, alongside a fine brush to correct any imperfections
