ULEZ - Plans (and would you have to pay?)

Also 5 'visits' to the ULEZ over the pass week with a non-compliant car, and my auto-pay account is yet to register any activity. I've certainly once driven passed a mobile camera car in full view of it. (I was aware of it on subsequent visits, and the road being a dual carriageway, managed to...

The future of flying - Electric planes or bans on flying?

Some airlines (easyJet certainly) will taxi on one engine, only starting the other shortly before take off. There was a trial, I think in Germany, where a A320 was fitted with electric motors on the main undercarriage wheels for taxiing. However, I think it wasn't cost effective due to the...

    Bachmann GB quarterly announcements.

Glad they haven't one a 4CEP that I would be interested in (NSE or Connex), as it would've been a tough decision due to the cost of them (£589 RRP!) Makes the price of the Hornby VEP seem incredibly good value.

On your 1st point, classic cars are except anyway!

ULEZ - Plans (and would you have to pay?)

Incorrect, only if you are on a benefit of some sort you can claim up to £2000. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/scrappage-schemes/car-and-motorcycle

Airbus A320 - Uninhabited Terrain Kit?

Yes, separation from the aircraft is manually done. It's just two latches on the floor of the doorway that'll release the slide.

Missing submersible near wreck of Titanic

Going further into that, carbon fibre also has a tendency to spring back after impact, leaving no evidence if damage at all. Can be an issue in my industry (civil aviation) as impacts are known to go unreported.

Blank sign on variable speed limit motorways

I do find that peoples response to variable speed limits also depends on what the sign says. For example, the more usual 'Incident' or 'Congestion' get ignored by a reasonable proportion of drivers (if they can), however I have observed that messages like 'oil in road' or 'oncoming vehicle '...

    Football

No, making point that just throwing £100's millions at a team does not get guarantee success

    Football

Case in point this season - Chelsea. Man United haven't exactly been frugal the last few years either and they don't exactly have a lot to show for it in terms of silverware.

    Football

It's owned by London Legacy Development Corporation (part of Greater London Authority) and West Ham have a 99 year lease. However, the stadium is run at a loss due to little other income except for the football and a handful of concerts. The initial idea was for athletics to continue, but there...

    Football

West Ham have a seat exchange, whereby season ticket holders can relist their seat for sale if the game has sold out. You get the money back as club cash. I didn't make it to a number of home games this year and sold my ticket that way, gave me about 50% off my season ticket for next year...

    4DD (double decker Southern unit)

Looks like it's the Northampton based driving car on its way to join the other surviving one in Sellindge, Kent. https://www.bulleid4dd.org.uk/2023/03/move-preparations-at-northampton-for-s13004/

    Football

If West Ham were playing the likes of Man City and Liverpool, I'd agree with you. However, they are playing Leeds and Leicester, and although it wouldn't be unexpected for those games to end in defeat for the Hammers, I really can't see any thrashings coming

    Football

West Ham who are possibly going for I have their most bds elsewhere as well (conference league final possibility). Last night's result also means West Ham are safe (barring a ridiculous goal swing from Leeds)

    Eurovision 2023

Personally really didn't get the hype over Sweden's entry. Wasn't bad at all, but also wasn't great. Finland were best for me, followed by Norway. The crowd seemed to much prefer Finland as well!!!

Blank sign on variable speed limit motorways

M25 speed cameras. Definitely on the stretch I drive regularly (J7 - 14), there are not speed cameras on every gantry. In fact, there are only 2 in either direction along that entire stretch. They are the yellow ones mounted on the side of the gantries, which are clearly visible. These also...

Modern driving aids and their impact on driving standards

One for me is cars that have a small light within the wing mirror that comes on when a vehicle is along side you. All it really achieves is people stop looking in their mirrors and rely on the light!

    UK Emergency Alert Tests

Mine was very quiet. The phone vibrating was louder! Wouldn't of known about it if my phone was in the other room. (My volumes are set in max as well)

    What's your latest acquisition?

You can change the CV settings, but it's a bit of a faff and the MLV is permanently coupled to a CEP anyway, so it isn't really necessary for it to be powered. Also gives me a source of spares, as all the Bachmann southern EMUs and DEMUs have the same drive train
