Celebrity diesels - the most famous and popular

I know it's not diesel, but the Brighton Belle is probably the non-steam train that the general public have heard if the most.

    What's your latest acquisition?

I'll keep an eye on that. I've got the exact same to sell at some point as it's been displaced by my Dapol example. Interested to see what it goes for.

    Trivia: Common Covid-19 related fallacies

If everyone just followed the 'rules', COVID would disappear.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

People who walk up to a pedestrian crossing, press the button and only then look to see there is little traffic and cross immediately. The lights then change with no one waiting to cross as they've already gone!

    Named Multiple Units

Two Class 421/7 (3-COP, rebuilt BIGs minus the buffet cars) were named 1408 - Littlehampton Progress 2000 1409 - Operation Perseus According to Wikipedia anyway, can't find any other evidence of them though

    A380s coming back

Off topic, but those 777's with the old entertainment system are well on there way out now (the cabin anyway, not the aircraft themselves), being replaced with a much better Panasonic system and the new club 'vector' seats.

    Petrol panic buying

It seems to be the south east where there is still an issue. Majority of fuel stations here in Surrey do now seem to be open, but there are still large queues. The media seem to have got bored with it as there is not a mention of fuel shortages on the BBC homepage, so that should help the situation.

Smart Motorways, is it time to end them?

Bit of a late reply, but I think they are already doing this on stretches (certainly the Surrey stretch) of the M25. The gantries with the yellow cameras to the side of them will flash if a vehicle goes through a red 'X'. I've witnessed the cameras going berserk a few times, although don't know...

Smart Motorways, is it time to end them?

Obviously, all motorway's when widened should be done properly with a permanent hard shoulder, but that gets very expensive when it comes to bridges, tunnels, cuttings, junctions etc. I think the best solution are the motorway's that have the dynamic hard shoulder that only becomes a running...

    What's your latest acquisition?

Just finished building a Metcalfe footbridge (2 kits to make). Was very easy to build and was fairly simple to adapt to the layout as my platform spans aren't exactly standard! Just need to find a way of making the pantographs on my 76 slightly lower when deployed as they just graze the bridge...

The case for and against the effectiveness of face coverings and the mandating of their use

Not those pubs exactly, but I've been on a pub crawl around Borough Market/Cannon Street/Blackfriars and a night out in Shoreditch over the past week and mask wearing was minimal even though most places were fairing busy. In Shoreditch, mask wearing was completely non-existent.

Examples of surprisingly high mileages given to towns on UK road signs

That's my memory from family holidays driving to and from South of France. I recall one of the signs saying 700 and something KM to Lyon, which was slightly daunting as we were going over 100km beyond!

    What's your latest acquisition?

A couple of arrivals from eBay recently, with a couple more to come. First up was a rake of 3 lighted Pullmans (queen of Scots coach pack I think) to replace my triang and railroad ones. The rake is now fully lit and looks rather good! Can't quite make it out in the photo though Next up was a...

19th July Lockdown Easing - Observations and Compliance

Because unfortunately people believe aircraft to be 'dirty' as they think germs are circulated round and round for hours. Of course, pretty much the opposite is true. Along with the continuing mask mandates on aircraft, it gives the impression you need 'extra protection' whilst on an aircraft...

Do you have any model railway projects on the go?

I had a layout when I was younger, but it's all been in storage for the past 15 years or so, though that hasn't stopped me buying new bits and pieces! I've recently bought a new house which has a brick built shed, so that coupled with lots of annual leave to use up over the first half of this...

19th July Lockdown Easing - Observations and Compliance

Went for my first trip to the local pub last night since 'freedom day'. The pub followed every rule to the letter during restrictions, but now there is nothing at all! Nobody was wearing a mask either. You could say it felt very normal.

19th July Lockdown Easing - Observations and Compliance

Just got back from my local Lidl in Surrey. No signs the doors at all to do with masks/social distancing. Mask compliance was very high here (only the odd person, who may of been exempt anyway). Usage was still up at about 80%, but interestingly none of the staff were wearing them!

Curious object on platform at Horley Station

Correct, that was where the 4 car stop was, which was the norm at Horley up until a few years ago
