GTR FRAUD INVESTIGATION - Suspected Evasion

Given that you’ve come to the railway’s attention before for not having the correct ticket, you may need to work a little harder than usual in persuading GTR that you are not going to continue evading the correct fare.

    TPE Ticket Irregularity Report

Unfortunately you have two choices. Either pay up, or face prosecution and be found guilty (because you are), which will result in a conviction (which most people are very keen to avoid), and a fine and costs which are very likely to exceed the offer made to you. It’s galling when it was an...

Seat reservations compulsory London Paddington - Cardiff Sunday 16th August

3-0 to Arsenal I gather… 1787004277 I’m sure it would have been held back if penalties were needed. And it’s not that tight as there is plenty of time for many of those in the South end of the stadium lower tiers to get to the station. And GWR would wait until it was at least reasonably full...

Borders line (Scotland) electrification news and updates

No, that’s what they are currently in the process of procuring, but they won’t be available until after 2030, as the press release clearly states.

Borders line (Scotland) electrification news and updates

Unlikely, as they won’t have any spare EMUs to run on it.

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

Well if the full complement needed for the Pontypridd to Bay service will be in operation on Wednesday then I’d say it’s not at all unlikely that one or two will venture further north by the autumn solstice. And that particular poster was even suggesting that the whole fleet should be...

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

Great to hear. Given all the doom and gloom we were hearing about the units from one contributor (who has gone strangely quiet for the last month), it's really positive that there seems to be slow but steady progress in rolling the units out.

"TfL Fare Evasion - Friend's Blocked Card (Used Multiple Times) & Previous Penalty"

You can, but from cases we see here it is likely to cost you several hundred pounds. And there is no guarantee that they will be able to change the outcome.

    Travel Irregularity Report

Does your brother have a 26-30 Railcard? You may get asked to explain any other purchases with a railcard that he has made on the account, as they will initially suspect you have been using those tickets too.

    Use of phones while driving.

You could record part of the conversation as evidence too.

Disparity in Oyster vs Contactless inspections

I’m a regular Oyster user, and fwiw pay a considerable amount of higher rate tax on my pension income (which I don’t begrudge). And in good health and below state pension age. And I doubt I am the only one. So I dispute that only the poorest and most vulnerable use Oyster.

A New Series of "Fare Dodgers At War With the Law..."

    10. Easily usually, as most fare dodgers fail to realise the electronic trail they are leaving and use the same booking engine for both.

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

Is it an offence? Surely not if the ticket was bought before departure? Proving it might be more difficult though. I would take a picture of myself at the platform at the time the ticket was purchased as evidence in that situation.

Saturdays and Sundays should be inside the working week for drivers at all TOCs (not just some as at present)

I seem to recall that GWR drivers taken on after a certain date do have Sundays in their working week. Is that correct?

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

Aren’t all the 756s already trimode?

Saturdays and Sundays should be inside the working week for drivers at all TOCs (not just some as at present)

The earliest graduates on the egregious Plan 2 9% repayment loans graduated 11 years ago. Plan 1 loans also repay at 9% and started in 1998, but are less of a problem as the amounts were lower and the debt is extinguished after 25 years.

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

The 756s are tri-mode, which makes them more useful in terms of operating in a non-diesel mode. Especially if some carefully chosen isolated sections of wiring are added.

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

There will be no new TfW services west of Cardiff. The Bristol services will be extensions of existing services that currently terminate at Cardiff.

Saturdays and Sundays should be inside the working week for drivers at all TOCs (not just some as at present)

Not necessarily @al78. If you have young children then there is an immediate total loss of childcare benefits at 100k, which means an effective significant drop in net income at that point. So many earners who think they are at risk of just tipping over that threshold will be heavily...

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

Of course I can’t identify alternative paths. I don’t work in the rail industry. There’s no need to be passive aggressive. All I am saying is that if an established TOC, supported by its national government, wants to introduce new daily services through the tunnel which, (according to your...
