    Global Airlines launch flights announced

That's the most unsurprising update ever, isn't it? It was a lost cause from the outset, and the debacle over the first couple of flights could only have reinforced that view.

    Class 175s to GWR

Procurement of new stock seems to take longer and longer - look at the process for simply choosing a supplier for stock for Scotrail's BEMU fleet. It doesn't help that the requirements demanded of the new trains are more complex than ever. Bimodes, BEMUs, etc. And then again, the longer you...

    North Filton / Brabazon

I'm looking at that platform canopy with envy, given what some of the existing stations in the area with a reasonable footfall have as shelter. (Nailsea & Backwell, Filton Abby Wood to name but two.

    caught using a child ticket

No, they can claim for the entire trip, and probably will do so. The Anytime Single via Carlisle is £73.

    Class 175s to GWR

If that started, "Knowing DfT..." then I would agree.

    Class 175s to GWR

It does seem a common problem, yes. Although in one current topical case, it doesn't seem to be any better for the new fleet being introduced...

    Class 175s to GWR

True, but you're assertion is that it was management to deem whether it was acceptable. Given that it had been up until that point, it is not unreasonable for them to take the view that it still is, unless told otherwise by the Union which, don't forget, fulfils a key role in determining whether...

    Class 175s to GWR

The point is that they were regarded as fully operable for the first 20 years of their life without illumination. Unless the Union said early on in the process that having examined the units they no longer considered that acceptable then it was perfectly reasonable for GWR management to assume...

    GWR Bristol - Oxford service

I think we should concentrate on the positive that the service is up and running, and according to Mark Hopwood quoted in the latest Modern Railways is doing well. As opposed to grumbling that catering isn’t available on a journey of just 75 minutes end to end.

Early warning of Christmas Engineering Works affecting London -> Harrogate

Not ideal, but if there was a closure between Paddington and Heathrow they could always use the Piccadilly Line from Kings Cross.

Tyne and Wear Metro - Washington loop extension

That's a fair point to some extent, but I would imagine the land take on either side of reconstructing a disused trackbed to around 50mph standard would be an order of magnitude less than for a completely new alignment engineered for 200mph+ and for which the majority is at a different level to...

    invalid railcard

I guess it comes with the territory that breaking the law brings with it some anxiety, first when participating in the offence, in the hope that you are not caught, and subsequently when you are actually caught and facing the consequences of your actions.

    invalid railcard

They have absolutely no reason to investigate your Oyster history. Please, please, for your own sake, put it out of your mind.

Tyne and Wear Metro - Washington loop extension

I guess it depends what the expected demand is between Washington and Sunderland. Also, would it be faster to Sunderland that way from Newcastle (assuming no change at Pelaw)?

    invalid railcard

Everyone's telling you the same thing. If you didn't tell them you were using the Oyster card, they have no reason to check CCTV, and even if you did tell them, it's vanishingly unlikely that they would go to the effort of trying to find you on just one day, let alone many.

    invalid railcard

At the risk of repeating what has already been said, provided you cooperate they should offer you a settlement. Usually they want to hear from you first, but we do see instances where the initial letter includes a settlement offer.

    invalid railcard

Unlikely to be this week. They have a lot of fare dodgers to work through, and they will do so in order, so you just have to wait until they reach your case. Could be weeks, could be months. But should be less than 6 months, as that is the time limitation to start prosecution proceedings against...

Tyne and Wear Metro - Washington loop extension

It is an absurdity that it's unacceptable to build a new level crossing on what appear to be relatively lightly used roads, but it's ok to keep crossings such as at Tempsford open, (which has at least 9 trains per hour in each direction running at speeds of up to 125mph), because it never...

Tyne and Wear Metro - Washington loop extension

I found this from the link in post 54 quite interesting, and is a good example of why infrastructure projects cost so much in the UK in comparison to on the continent:- To take the three points in order:- The obvious route would be to continue along the old track alignment through the...

    invalid railcard

Dont forget there is a minimum fare of £12 restriction on the 16-25 railcard before 10am, so if you are travelling before then, you need to be careful.
