    Rail usage

The standout statistic is that revenue decreased by 1% (after adjustment for inflation). Whilst that was entirely predictable given the fare freeze, it will no doubt set a few hares running in the industry and government.

    British Airways

Ha, ha, ha, what do you think??? (But I will be asking!) 1790778205 Good question! The flight is full (Kuala Lumpur - Grand Prix weekend), so I doubt there is scope to move people around.

Good start to my 13 hour flight later today. Just had an email saying there will be no entertainment system, no power and no personal light. Just as well it’s a night flight.

Thanks. It was the acronym I didn’t get - I’m familiar with the Concorde Room itself following a very pleasant lunch there last year. 1790693913 Mostly harmless, to reuse a phrase. Not great, but adequate. My main gripe with the lounge is that it usually takes us 10 minutes to find spare...

What is CCR dining? (Said as a Silver member, so use the lounge reasonably frequently.)

Thameslink - travelling on an off peak ticket

Especially given they would have had to book the ticket for a train time after 1000, and then use an earlier one. And not just once, but time after time…

    Expensive new ticket purchased

Yes, it's correct. The cost of excessing her ticket to an Anytime Return would have been £115 (the Anytime Return being 184.70), so instead he sold her a new Anytime Single ticket at the cost you quote, being cheaper.

Thameslink - travelling on an off peak ticket

You can find many examples here of good responses, but the important thing is to reply promptly, be apologetic, explain that you have learnt your lesson and ask very nicely if they will consider an out of court settlement. Don't lie - eg if your actions were deliberate, don't say it was an...

Thameslink - travelling on an off peak ticket

Indeed, the terms of the Network Card are that it cannot be used until 10am. You must have been selecting a time to travel after 10am and then using the ticket on an earlier service, no? The good news is GTR rarely prosecute if you cooperate when you get their letter, but that bad news is that...

Severn Estuary Tidal Power - Could it Double Up as a New Rail Crossing?

I would have thought a simple link road between the M4 and M48 between Rogiet and Caldicot with only east facing slip roads could replace the Severn Bridge. Yes it would be longer than the current route from Chepstow but there has to be a limit as to how much is spent to keep the old bridge open.

TfW names a Class 197 unit "Penarth Pier"

A bit odd to name a Class 197 Penarth Pier, as it will go nowhere near the Penarth branch.

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

Interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Tynewydd (or Blaenrhondda) mentioned as a possible extension. Yet I’ve thought for a long time it would be a useful extension, especially if the Rhondda Tunnel Society could eventually get the tunnel reopened, as it would help attract tourism to it.

Fury/Joshua boxing match in Cardiff - Implications for rail services?

There are, and indeed my mother lived on one until 2019, exactly a mile from Queen St. The problem is that unless you have a permit, spaces are very limited, and just turning up and hoping that a) you can park there and b) you can find a space, is a bit of a lottery.

East West Rail - Marston Vale Acceleration Programme

That feels surprising given Universal is expected to open in 2031.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Agree, but that didn't get mentioned, as the request was for changes since 2019. As an aside, I can't help wondering how robust the timetable will be once 4tph is introduced up each branch with the remaining sections of single line.

Fury/Joshua boxing match in Cardiff - Implications for rail services?

That's interesting. So to take an example, when there are big concerts at the Principality in the summer, GWR in particular lays on many extra services to London and Bristol up to midnight. Are you saying that they are guaranteed funding to run these services by the Welsh government, the DfT or...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Merthyr Branch. From just north of Pentrebach (23 miles 11 chains) to just south of Merthyr (24.37), together with a loop at Quakers Yard. Aberdare Branch: Mountain Ash loop now extends to just south of Fernhill (20.71), and...

Help: I got a Witness Statement Receipt

The Anytime Single fare (not PAYG) from Mitcham Eastfields to City Thameslink is currently £5.90. So if they do trawl back through the records, it is possible that they will ask you for £11.80 for every day they identify you didn't have a valid ticket. As you've been doing this for 10 months...

Fury/Joshua boxing match in Cardiff - Implications for rail services?

Is that how it typically works for other big events? I'm not sure it is but maybe I am wrong. I would have thought the railway would simply look to cater for whatever demand they believe likely to exist. As for the expectation that many people will drive. I am sure many will, but the capacity...

Fury/Joshua boxing match in Cardiff - Implications for rail services?

It might be as far as you are concerned, but you can be absolutely certain that the council has been involved in the discussions and it is going to get a licence. So then we come back to my original question as to exactly what sort of service will be put on to handle the crowds when they emerge.
