TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

Or more accurately, here are the freight paths through the tunnel, (90% of which don’t appear to be running today.) Given that the tunnel is apparently close to capacity, there really needs to be a discussion as to how appropriate it is for very infrequently used paths to block a passenger...

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

Sorry, I meant any train coming from the north would come down from the Birmingham area, and “turn right” at Gloucester and miss Westerleigh and the Severn Tunnel completely.

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

It’s the Severn Tunnel, surely? How many of these freight trains to the new EA furnace at Port Talbot will need to a) travel through the tunnel (surely trains from the North can come via Lydney?) and b) of those travelling through the tunnel how many could come at less busy times for passenger...

Please help!! 20 years old, haven’t got much spare money, and made a stupid mistake.

Thanks for the update, and gosh, we don’t often see an outcome like that, for what is a fairly straightforward case. The fact that they haven’t asked you for even the difference between the fare you paid and what you should have paid for the journey you were stopped on is very surprising.

That's exactly what SWR does now and again.

    SWR Travel Irregularity Report

Did you buy two separate one way tickets (in which case how would the ticket inspector know that you had another ticket to tell you it still wasn’t valid), or was it a return ticket (in which case there is marginally more justification for a “he didn’t tell me” view.)

I guess doughnutting is a bit more difficult on a transatlantic flight...

South Wales 'Metro' potential works, expansions and impact of possible road schemes on the railway

Does a strip of tarmac 32m wide (assuming 6 lanes and a full hard shoulder) destroy an environment? Or simply split it in two? And exactly how long would the section be through this section? Is it so important as to sustain all the disbenefits that everyone acknowledges the current M4 brings?

    Short faring prosecution southeastern railway

Yes, your best bet is to wait and see. (So long as you are sure that they have your correct name and address, and that you are able to access post delivered to that address.)

    The 'fraud letters' process

Not sure I agree with this. TfL is expected to wash its face financially by the government , and should be perfectly entitled to take a more robust approach if it wishes, (provided it remains lawful of course) if it thinks that is the more effective way to handle fare evasion.

    Prefix PF appeal services help

I can’t see you did anything wrong. The ticket doesn’t have to be in your name, and the railcard was indeed yours. A carefully worded appeal should be successful. However we do find that only the third appeal, which is more independently assessed, actually does anything other than decline it...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

I wonder whether the finger-pointing at Hitachi ruffled a few too many feathers that eventually got back to the DfT, which then leant on Transport UK to get rid of him.

Memories of there being direct Bristol - west Wales services in the 1990s

No - Class 33 days is the era I cited, and I don't think there were any regular services that avoided Temple Meads then.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

A bit odd, as if the MP is so against it, surely all he has to do is persuade the Transport Minister to cancel it and reallocate the £33m elsewhere. Or has it not dawned on him yet that his party is in power and effectively controls TfW?

Memories of there being direct Bristol - west Wales services in the 1990s

Really? I was a regular user from 1980 to 1983 between Cardiff and Southampton (home and uni) and don’t recall any services avoiding Temple Meads.

How will Gatwick station cope with a second runway?

I agree that Oxford to Gatwick feels like an easy win. The connection to prevent any conflict at Reading was put in with the Reading remodelling. And Oxford is not on the Liz Line, so doesn’t even benefit from a quick one stop change at Farringdon.

How will Gatwick station cope with a second runway?

How would that work for those travelling beyond London, for whom Thameslink offers a through service? Are you really going to make them go to Victoria, then on the tube, then on another service north? Similarly those for whom the connection at Farringdon offers a one change onto the Elizabeth Line.
