ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Oh 100% but I doubt they'll want to admit the scale of the failure. My friend bought a return on it yesterday and after using the first part of the ticket, it disappeared from the app and his account forcing him to buy another single. He's been told to phone for a refund. Another thing I've...

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Current out of 5 ratings for the two apps on Play Store: Old: 4.5 New: 1.3 I take it they will get a greater profit per ticket sale through their own app versus any other vendor? If so this isn't just egg on face, this is long term loss of revenue if people permanently switch to alternatives?

Their loss, I've rage deleted it and downloaded TrainSplit. I take it for the forum to benefit i'd need to use the web links above though?

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

I had the password reset issue too, but as it's an old email address that auto forwards anyway it was an opportunity to update it. Not like I'm losing anything. It's inability to look stations up by CRS code despite them being listed against the station names is a lovely bit of non...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

I'm not privvy to inside information but going by what is on the public domain I would conclude that the Evoras and XLBs are ordered but the ScotZEB3 BZL/ADL and Wrightbus electric decker orders haven't been placed yet. Even if arrivals are imminent I don't get the sense they would change what...

What constitutes an appropriate vehicle for long distance bus services?

I agree with a lot of the comments here, the "problem" compared to ~25 years ago is caused by the absolutely necessary requirements that have emerged around accessibility, that's completely dented high floor suitability. Needing to work around low floor access in most scenarios has led to...

Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

    Great, informative reply, many thanks!

3rd round of Scottish Zero Emission funding announced

Not mine either but from my research it appears as TfGM as a governmental department purchasing vehicles at market rate with their own budget, they are NOT subject to the Subsidy Act. They are instead subject to Procurement Act rules, but that allows them to apply their own weightings on things...

3rd round of Scottish Zero Emission funding announced

Monumentally stupid or not, your issue is with the Subsidy Control Act 2022 which explicitly bans applying domestic content restrictions to subsidies, which is entirely what ScotZEB is.

3rd round of Scottish Zero Emission funding announced

It's going to come down to how the scheme was written. 1. Its going to depend on what the scheme said it was for, or specifically what the criteria were. Was explicitly to expand zero emission take up, or was it to remove diesel's from the roads? It feels that is what that argument is going to...

Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

Is it normal for the original builder of the train to contribute to the refurbishment of a second hand unit? Or is is this because the Siemens Desiro Verve is likely to be on Northern's candidate list for its upcoming orders? Or am I being overly sceptical?

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Do we know why they've gone to Scania for coaches? Not a problem just wildly out with normal convention. I seem to remember mention of B8R/EvoTors being on order but never materialised?

    First Group: General Discussion

As Aberdeen Council own them, and First state they are being supplied the vehicles for this contract, I doubt it on about three different levels.

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

That's my understanding, yes. Took a trip on one of recently delivered Kites (1e) yesterday, seemed very solid overall, it seemed to have an issue with either tyre scrub or steering lock whine on full lock and nitpicking the cab door open buzzer is obnoxiously loud (although not as awful as the...

Your favourite bus/coach livery, past or present.

Some excellent suggestions so far, many of which I agree with from across the decades. One modern one I was sad to see the back of was in my opinion the nicest "Fleet of the Future" variant - Skyline Blue and White. Link to a relevant photo on Google. I wish it had been the colour for East...

ScotRail Stopgap Stock: What COULD be used to replace an aging fleet?

I feel Highlander1 has covered the reasons for this already. They must have concluded that introducing a new type is less beneficial than holding on to existing types for longer.

I'd argue the evening peaks too. 1782026255 Tell that to office employers that insist on antiquated M-F 9-5 routines! I agree though it's a reality that just needs to be accommodated.

Borders Railway - 10 years on

In my experience the sort of people spending four or even five figures on a serious mountain bike, who do not live beside a suitably large enough hill to throw themselves down will have their own "to destination" travel sorted. The car park is generally full of very expensive cars with all...

    Lothian group (Network/Route Speculation)

100% this would help. I don't want to sound like a scratched record, the housing growth is the elephant in the room. Let's say for arguments sake every 1,000 houses they add there are two adults in them. Let's say just 1 in 40 of those 2,000 adults want to commute to Edinburgh. That's 50...

ScotRail Stopgap Stock: What COULD be used to replace an aging fleet?

With a time machine, they should have taken some 321 - preferably the Renatus units before they went for scrap. To save on costs stick a wrap over them and just run them as 4 car units, allowing all serviceable 3 car units to run in pairs. As one train short formed to 4 car is better than two...
