The Southport -> Stalybridge connects onto the Cumbria -> Airport at Bolton (with an 11 min change, but runs fast from Bolton to Deansgate instead of stopping, and is only 4 mins behind by Salford Crescent).
Obviously that only works once an hour, but the other half hour there's a direct service...
A lot, even when I just want the city centre I usually change there for Deansgate or Piccadilly, and I'm far from the only one getting off there.
Only the Southport line has the choice of Castlefield or Victoria everywhere else only gets 1 route.
I was caught in that too.
Fortunately my trip was just a day out on trains, so I just went home and got a refund.
I never left the station so never saw if the buses ever existed.
I haven't used a rail replacement bus since August 2023, although I have used regular service buses instead of...
At least if it says a rail replacement you can know it's worth going to ask where they're going.
I've only seems couple rail replacements to display the destination (and a few have had paper stop lists by the door)
The ideal would presumably be
- rail symbol where route number would be
-...
The list of stations that are 'essentially closed' is quite a long one and Bordesly is one of the better served ones.
I used it on a non-match day and was unsurprisingly the only user.
If so I propose the True Circle line (infinite).
Someone already said
which I don't think should count since it's a service to T4 then a completely new separate service.
There is engineering work on a bridge near Swansea at the moment, so the line is closed.
Looking at the 13th I see the below with 32 stations (3 of which request stops).

or 35 (5 of which request)...
I've been travelling around the West Midlands a lot over the last couple months and apart from 172s' windows seeming to all be dirty, I've not noticed any significant issues.
It really depends on the company, some that run Driver only, such as c2c, may have only the driver across 3 units that don't have through corridors, meanwhile CrossCountry must have a guard in both units or the unit without gets locked out.
Although in hide and seek, the future hider's position depends on the previous, so it's quite understandable the moves that were made.
Wales would have been a relatively silly move, few lines are even in play for Wales due to the low frequency.
If you go on realtime trains in detailed mode an select the by default unselected box labelled CAN, does it show up then?
I can see a lot of trains cancelled in that way.
I find for some unknown reason, the 3rd listed video on that page is always a video with very low views from channels I've never heard of before.
But apart from that I find the rest of my recommended relatively normal.
Worth noting, although the impact is probably quite minor, that the 1 per 2 hour Leeds - Huddersfield stopping service by TPE (matched in the other hour by Northern) has been completely replaced by a 1tph Northern service going Leeds - Bradford.
Much lower quality but I saw 730042 + 730043 together last Saturday (24/01/2026).
Presumably I'll see 730043 + 730044 next.

Multiple units aren't the only ones that get to join in the fun.
90047 + 90048 seen at Nuneaton last Saturday (24/01/2026).
And then not long after 805006 +...
