Which sites to purchase train tickets?

You won't find any that do splitting with no fee, but trainsplit is great in the other regards or if you don't need splits. Also with trainsplit you can buy them on the website (including the reskins like the forum one) and have the tickets in the app.

Salford Crescent extra platform, was it the right choice?

Yes I doubt it would be easy. unless you want underground platforms (e.g. sending the Atherton line into a tunnel) but that's a whole different discussion.

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

It was said up thread that it was due to a possession, meaning the train couldn't use the siding that day. I don't know why such a minor holiday would have any impact on train operations.

    Restarting HS2a

The Golborne link sent it right to Wigan, and having the link to Manchester Piccadilly would leave pretty much everywhere else with a direct service to HS2 in some regard.

Which sites to purchase train tickets?

They do, it's the same as trainsplit (just a different look)

    Staff on non-ganwayed sets

I saw recently that during peak times they run without passengers express to/from Ashford. I had assumed they would have no guard and that's why they couldn't run in passenger service but it seems not!

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

The simple solution to this is to offer cheap advanced tickets on the buses. The difference between Edinburgh - Peterbrough (by train), and Edinburgh - (train) - Peterbrough - (bus) - London should be very low to encourage people to use the buses instead of flooding the MML.

TfL anti fare evasion effort intensifies

When making a journey in London last year I did only tap into the tram as it approached because I'm not sure when you have to tap in by (is 5 minutes too far in advance?). I didn't want to risk it and I hit the bus/tram cap that day anyway.

Which sites to purchase train tickets?

I mostly use the forum site for journeys with advanced notice, or the trainsplit app for on the day, using Northern's app for my season ticket (no real reason in particular, it's just the one I had and I have no reason to switch). When booking for other people if they have multiple railcards...

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

Was that a backup for the Greenford branch in particular, or a spare (or few of) for all 165/166 services in the region?

TfL anti fare evasion effort intensifies

But if you would use a bus instead you only lose however many minutes it takes the bus to show up from your hopper fare. Probably doesn't matter for many making journeys home.

Salford Crescent extra platform, was it the right choice?

In terms of Manchester routes, all tracks can be used to/from either, for Bolton and Atherton: The Up Bolton (P3) can only be arrived in from Bolton. The Up and Down Bolton (P1) can be used in either direction to/from Bolton, but only from Atherton. The Down Bolton (P2) can be used in either...

TfL anti fare evasion effort intensifies

I'd imagine it would have about the same evasion rate as buses (if not a bit more), the pricing is the same, the only difference is tapping on before boarding instead of when boarding.

Altnabreac station and the various legal disputes around it

Their newer video below is of 158713 (which I had linked previously) https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:W56769/2024-03-01/detailed#allox_id=0 Quite a few trains lost a couple minutes in the area that day, so it's certainly reasonable. Most of them recovered the delay, the far...

Altnabreac station and the various legal disputes around it

The train they blocked was almost certainly 2H61 0700 Inverness to Wick, which lost 10 minutes between Forsinard and Georgemas Junction. They could have at least delayed them an extra minute so the passengers would be able to get delay repay at Thurso and Wick...

There's also Atherton (Manchester) and Atherstone (Warwickshire).

Camp Hill line - progress updates

The Chiltern ones (007 - 012) don't get used on ordinary WMR services, but last time I passed 007 and 012 were on Tysley depot (along with plenty more 196s, 170s, 172s, and a Pacer for some reason) so it won't have been too much work. Maybe this is a good sign for the future of collaboration.

Run the Waterloo and City line on weekends

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

If they had gotten on that train and realised by Clapham Junction, they would've been able to go from Platform 11 at 21:35 to Platform 10 21:39 for the 21:44 from Vauxhall. Only a ~10 min loss.

What would you do to improve the London Underground?

Ah indeed, I thought the crossovers were on the other side of the station. If we have a lot of money we could do Edgeware - Bank - (new under/overpass at Kennington) - Clapham Jn and Morden - Waterloo - High Barnet to keep 1 depot on each route. Would interchange to the Northern line at...
