The edge of the Greater Manchester ticketing boundary is Apperly Bridge at 17:01, so actually 61 minutes after 16:00. However the reverse gets you further into the period, the 15:53/15:57 from Apperley Bridge/Gathurst gets to Stalybridge at 17:05.

Really? The whole reason for closing P2 was extending P3 to 4 carriages. And if that was a problem why didn't they just regularly use P1, it was usually empty.

One time I had a 4 car 158 not fully make it into platform 3 (I assume the driver just stopped a bit short) at Wigan North Western, so the back door was beyond the platform (where the fence is) The guard opened every door except the back one manually with the emergency entrances, no clue how...

Clearly that's a narrow guage platform and a standard guage one using the same middle track. Not sure where the power is coming from to get that cart moving, it kind of looks like there should be pedals there.

As far as I'm aware the main power issue is lack of long term plan paths due to freight services having the right to use electricity, but often not. In that case, surely they could receive bi-modes that can run on diesel (like TPE do from Newcastle to Edinburgh sometimes) through the low power...
