What would you do to improve the London Underground?

In theory if you were to run the Northern to Clapham Junction it'd be better to have that link to the bank branch to offer it as a 1 connection service instead of the Waterloo and city line. Although the current tunnel layout makes that unreasonable since it'd cross over the other branch.

    Wigan-Bolton services after electrification?

The sectional appendix has it as 72 metres long (i.e. 3 150 carriages), is there a bit of space that can be used to turnaround not in passenger service?

What would you do to improve the London Underground?

Yes, while I understand things can be hectic during disruption, 'minor delays' can mean a lot Intertube is a lifesaver.

What would you do to improve the London Underground?

That's a good point, the timetable could do with being a good bit easier to read, the one on bustimes.org is a mess (especially trying to figure out which trains connect to the Hainault loop services) The ultimate position would be if they were on Realtime trains (with allocations) but that's...

What would you do to improve the London Underground?

New trains for the Bakerloo line. Euston/Euston Square connected underground (unless Warren St works better) Is suggesting crossrail 2 too far?

    Season ticket route validity

Don't those mean the same thing? A season ticket is effectively just unlimited anytime returns over a time period

Learning how to use the routeing guide.

But it's easier to pull up a couple documents to figure out what you should be able to get trainsplit to generate than putting in all the separate options manually and eventually having to deal with the CAPTCHAs that show up if you do too many.

Has the Palace of Westminster had its day?

£40,000,000,000 is an insane cost for just keeping an old building. Think how much more of HS2 we could make with that money.

Learning how to use the routeing guide.

It's certainly possible, I have! The guide itself contains most of the information needed (although I do keep learning little things on here).

    Weird train-related dreams

Last night I had a train related dream (don't remember many details of), which was then followed by fake 'waking up' and having to remove the journeys from the dream from my spreadsheet. At the time I assumed that I somehow sleep-typed and put the entirely fictional journeys on in complete detail.

AI-generated (not entirely realistic) railway images

Just to see what happens when it has no chat history to run off, I've booted up Gemini (3) and asked it to "Please generate an image of" and then deleting the chat. It appears to be semi-random, so far I have gotten: - A lion standing on a rock (in a savanna) - A hiker on a mountain looking over...

    Most stops?

They advise that the first train from Govan is the 06:30, last is the 23:16, and that 1 lap takes 24 minutes. Therefore, if that first unit stays in service all day, it would do 42 laps (I get 42.91666667 but a train can't do 0.91 laps). Does an inner circle train take less time than an outer...

Stations in London with the most fast trains passing through

Queenstown road has 3 platforms, lots of passing trains (at up to 60mph), but has 4 tracks without platforms so not sure if it counts. Other than that Bushey and Harrow & Wealdstone (as said above) are both good calls, although have quite a few platforms, both with 125mph Pendolinos (110mph...

AI-generated (not entirely realistic) railway images

I assume it has remembered you asking it about railway stuff in that same one so just guessed what a nothing is! Seems to be a ruined turntable elevated above the track level!

Could we get rid of ticket vending machines (TVMs) at quieter stations?

Agreed, having 1 person in a van pop around whenever the machine needs something is far easier than having more revenue protection groups.

Could we get rid of ticket vending machines (TVMs) at quieter stations?

I would like if they could be retailed online, but I see no need for a dedicated website Vs being implemented as S-tickets (in app live tickets with rotating 'qr' codes) which any app that wants to can retail. Agreed that they are probably quite niche, but they're quite a substantial amount of...

Could we get rid of ticket vending machines (TVMs) at quieter stations?

How are we classifying "quieter stations". Locally to me the only way to buy rangers/rovers on a Saturday (or most days due to constant ticket office closures) is from the ticket mschine, is 2tph enough to not be classed as quieter, or will a different set of stations lose the ability to buy...
