The TfL planner (link) gives fares for some routes the single fare finder omits. For instance, it says that a journey from Hadley Wood to Victoria NR using SWR and LO (sorry, should be GN/TL & SE) costs the same as the fare from Hadley Wood to Victoria LU. It rarely give fares for journeys...

I was beginning to wonder as we now have three of them. The other two are otherwise identical to other easements, so I wonder if it's trying to work around a problem one of retail systems has. I think zonal fares are completely separate. If TfL changed the "via Bromley South" fares for these...

The following changes were published in the routeing guide on Wednesday. Changes from 27 Aug 2025 (591) to 03 Sep 2025 (592). Easement changes: Removed: 701348 (Fare route) Journeys priced on routes (00267) VIA BANBURY, (00305) VIA HIGH WYCOMBE, (00362) VIA HIGH WYC&SHR, (00363) VIA HWYC &...

Maybe. Easement 700321 says "Customers travelling from ... Coulsdon South ... to Redhill and beyond may double back via East Croydon". It has no effect on the itineraries retailers offer because it's (now) designated a "double back" easement (meaning that it applies between the origin and...

If you were going to be challenged, it would probably be on a train which went non-stop through Elton & Orston. The route would be valid with an "any permitted" ticket in this case as Grantham–Leicester is valid via Nottingham, but I realise that this case isn't really where purple-Azumas'...

That would be wrong for the same reason these adverts were, I think. Trainline would need to respond when they found that a competitor was selling tickets cheaper than them (for whatever reason). As they don't set their prices directly, they wouldn't find this easy. I'm sure they would if you...

If Andyh82 doesn't have (or plan to get) a railcard, splitting things up could reduce the price a bit: £16.20 Reading–West Drayton off peak day return £16.60 zone 1–6 off peak travelcard £6.40 Upminster–Grays off peak day return £39.40 total The only restriction on the return is that the...

If the options change, my advice may change. For now, Worldline-based retailers are often good at finding itineraries when the ticket you want isn't valid on the fastest route. And they may be better than fighting against a retail system which doesn't prioritise valid routes in the same way.

If you're looking for a specific ticket, and don't want to ask a human for it, the Worldline system used by sites such as Lumo's seems to be better at finding valid itineraries than some of the others are. It is (or, at least, was), after all, a feature of the UI they use. For instance, it...

Some changes were published in the routeing guide on Friday. Changes from 20 Aug 2025 (589) to 22 Aug 2025 (590). Easement changes: Added: 701399 (Local) Customers travelling from Woodlesford, Castleford, Pontefract Monkhill or Tanshelf and Normanton to Sandal & Agbrigg, Fitzwilliam, South...

It's possible. The page about them on nre.co.uk only says that they're available from ticket offices (link), so they may not be on any TVMs. The ticket office at Birmingham International closes at 9pm (link), so you may not have been able to buy it before you travelled on Saturday. An evening...

You could buy an off peak return to Edinburgh. The snag is that they only come in "Crosscountry only" and "TPE only" flavours. While there are return tickets you could buy which aren't restricted to one train company, it would be cheaper to buy a single each way. If I was buying off peak...

The restriction code has a perfectly good list of dates in 2025 which are not weekends or bank holidays in England. The problem with C7 is that every individual restriction for the code overrides these dates with its own list. Some restrictions need to override the dates for some of the...

Not with a ticket between Glenrothes with Thornton (GLT) and Kirkcaldy (KDY), as that's a "local" journey. The additional "there and back" routes only apply when the intermediate station is a common routeing point. Cameron Bridge (CBX) isn't a routeing point at all, so you can't use it like...

At the moment, no trains are running through Stockport, and there are no buses between there and Altrincham. You are permitted to use some of the local buses, but a rail retailer can't find offer a journey involving those as they're not in the data they use. What this easement does is allow...

The data for an easement was changed on Friday. Changes from 07 Aug 2025 (585) to 08 Aug 2025 (586). The data for easement 701386 now affects "via Stockport" tickets between Altrincham and stations towards Chester. There are none. The text remains: 701386 (Fare route) During engineering works...

Thanks, I hadn't noticed that easement. Easement 94 does seem redundant now 701388 is there. On another note, two more sets of changes have been made to the routeing guide this week. The following changes were published in the routeing guide on Wednesday. Changes from 01 Aug 2025 (583) to 06...

If you were being picky, they could have said which bridge Network Rail are due to work on, given that the railway crosses Brighton Road twice near Coulsdon South station. They could also have given the road number. Maybe the journalist thought better of it, though, given that Network Rail's...

They have set up an easement (whoever they are; the easement is atributed to "Arriva Bus", which seems unlikely to me), and you should have no trouble with buying the ticket you want on the Southern web site. I don't know why retailers don't all sell it.

With flexible tickets, the timings could be something like this: A. 8/8 17:45–19:38 Bournemouth–Reading–Didcot B. 9/8 11:10–11:12 Didcot–Cheltenham C. 9/8 16:23–16:32 Cheltenham–Gloucester D. 10/8 10:47–13:52 Gloucester–Reading–Twickenham–Teddington E. 10/8 16:56–18:32...
