    Are these tickets/journeys valid?

That's fine, but I'd buy a ticket from New Mills Newtown instead as it's a bit cheaper. If you ask nationalrail.co.uk* for a journey from one New Mills station, it will often advise you to start by walking to the other. None of the other journeys you listed involve stations with a walk defined...

Cost of single ticket depends on direction of travel?

Across the network there are hundreds, maybe more. The biggest numerical difference I've found is an "any permitted" Llanelli-London Terminals annual season, which costs £13620, or £3040 extra if you buy it in the other direction. I haven't tried to work out (for example) if a route (00600)...

    Gradient Profiles for the UK

I have a few questions about some of the data in these files. I'm having a little difficulty in seeing what WDB2 is showing. The only gradient indicator on it says that it is level from 13m 78ch. The first feature quoted is Hawarden Swing Bridge at 13m 24ch. The direction in which distances...

Ticket Restriction to Lichfield Trent Valley

This doesn't mean that a "not via London" ticket is valid via Southsea Hoverport, though, even if you're actually going to the Isle of Wight.

    Split Season Ticket Query

Plumpton-New Cross Gate seasons have a "not via London" route, so I don't think you can include any routes which go through London Group. I'd favour a Plumpton-Rotherhithe season ticket for that reason. It costs the same, and using Wivelsfield and Surrey Quays as routeing points gives you LB+EL...

    National Routeing Guide update

Two easements have been added to the routeing guide this afternoon. Changes from 11 Dec 2019 (287) to 18 Dec 2019 (288). Easement changes: Added: 700893 (Fare route) Customers travelling from Purfleet, Rainham and Dagenham Dock to destinations via Grays on the 27 and 28 December 2019, may use...

Delay repay where both companies are at fault

If the 17:50 had arrived at 19:27 as it was supposed to, you would have had time to catch the delayed 19:35 to York for an arrival in Huddersfield at 20:45. Whether you would have known to catch the 19:35 is another matter, as the 19:47 would have got there sooner if it had run on time. I'd...

    Transpennine Express December 2019 Proposals

One other thing which adds pressure to TPE's revenue is the fact that some flexible Avanti/Northern only fares have recently been created between Manchester and Edinburgh, with the Manchester Airport-Edinburgh off peak return at a lower price than the cheapest Preston-Edinburgh of peak return.

    TFW Class 175

To me, the seats in refurbished 175s (at least, the ones I've used) don't feel as comfortable. It feels to me as if the back of the seat itself is a little lower in comparison with the front. I haven't tried to work out if that's to do with the foam being thinner or if they've adjusted the seats...

    Avanti West Coast rebrand

The brunch & afternoon menus here include them now, with a chocolate mint of some sort in the evening. If they did stop providing them you could still buy them from the manufacturer, although you'd need to buy 80 to get free delivery. It seems like quite a lot.

    National Routeing Guide update

Are you sure about that? In the National Rail Timetable, the distance between the stations is given as 3.5 miles in tables 115 and 116. There are plenty of errors in the National Rail Timetable, but I don't think 3.5 miles is one of them as the distance between the stations is more than 3 miles...

    National Routeing Guide update

There are quite a lot of stations where the quickest way to go south (or wherever) can be to catch the next train north and double back from the next larger station. Some may be permitted by the larger station being a valid routeing point for the journey. Some may be permitted or forbidden by...

Underground destination tickets changing at Stevenage on trainsplit

Did you ask it for a journey to Euston? That may be why it gives the route it does. NRE gives the same sort of thing if I ask for Doncaster-Euston, simply because it calculates that 12:25 departure would get me to Euston at 14:42, whereas using a transfer from Kings Cross would delay my arrival...

    National Routeing Guide update

Some more changes were published this afternoon: Changes from 06 Dec 2019 (286) to 11 Dec 2019 (287). Permitted Route changes: Chester (CTR) to Runcorn (RUN) gain JO This journey now has mapped routes using the route direct trains take via Frodsham. Easement changes: Added: 700892...

This can't be right - delayed but have to wait for my original train

If the front train had a problem, they could leave it where it was and send the back one out on its own. There are a few through lines in Chester, so it wouldn't be trapped so long as it could still move under its own power. As for the customer experience, the Avanti staff are the same people...

Rmt look set to go to war...

I believe he's already held discussions with the incoming management. The press release doesn't mention anything specific about First/Trenitalia's proposals, so I think this press release is to say that he was satisfied with what they said. There are other ways to say this, but this is his...

    National Routeing Guide update

Two more easement changes were published on Friday: Changes from 04 Dec 2019 (285) to 06 Dec 2019 (286). Easement changes: Removed: 700491 (Circuitous Route) Customers travelling from or via Oxford to Kings Sutton may not travel via Banbury. This easement applies in both directions. From...

    National Routeing Guide update

Thanks. Not being able to buy advance tickets using the longer route is clearly a difference. Having checked, nre.co.uk (at least) doesn't appear to have implemented any of the easements in the list from 6/11. Just as a comparison, easement 37 (which is still a "manual" one in the routeing...

    National Routeing Guide update
