    National Routeing Guide update

It would, but the National Rail Conditions of Travel say: If no specific route or Train Company is shown, then ... it will be valid on: ... by any services ... over the shortest route which can be used by scheduled passenger services between the stations shown on your Ticket. If you use the...

Northern's removal of Advance fares from selected stations (also affecting sale tickets)

Northern offered 10p advance tickets on every route the offered advance tickets in last year's sale. I can't yet check if they've done the same this time, but it follows the same pattern from what I've seen. Unless you know differently?

Northern's removal of Advance fares from selected stations (also affecting sale tickets)

Sorry, I was looking at stations where you can get Duo tickets to from somewhere else, rather than also ones which only had Duo tickets starting from them. In terms of stations which don't have them in either direction, you're looking at stations between Huddersfield & Barnley, between...

Northern's removal of Advance fares from selected stations (also affecting sale tickets)

Northern don't really have a monopoly on anything, as there's always another way to get wherever you're going. While I don't suppose the people who decide what tickets Northern offer talk all that much to the customer service people, as far as I can tell there are neither Northern advance...

    National Routeing Guide update

Some more easements were added to and removed from the routeing guide on Wednesday. Changes from 18 Dec 2019 (288) to 08 Jan 2020 (289). Removed: 700878 (Map) During engineering works between the 09 - 14 November 2019, in the Taunton area, Great Western services will be diverted via Castle...

Stamford to Cambridge season ticket validity

There's no rule which says you can't. Not at the moment, anyway.

Dealing with delays on non London terminal season ticket

If you can't use your normal route because of disruption, and there hasn't been an announcement to say what you should do, your best option may be to ask a member of staff. I think you may be better off with a season ticket to London Thameslink, route "not Underground", though. London...

Stamford to Cambridge season ticket validity

nre.co.uk* says you can use a Stamford-Cambridge ticket to travel via Stevenage (so you don't need to buy to an alternative station and not be able to, say, buy a plusbus ticket at your actual destination). I know 700070 says "via Cambridge", but easement 700714 says: 700714 (Manual) Tickets...

Unable to reserve seats with certain fare types

It says on nre.co.uk that you may reserve a seat with these tickets. As I don't think you'd be offered this ticket on any non-reservable trains, what you saw was probably just a glitch somewhere.

    LNER New Fares Trial

I can see a couple of drawbacks with only buying a ticket at the last minute. If there's a group of you travelling, you may not be able to reserve seats together. If you would normally book assistance with your journey, you are asked to give 24 hours' notice for this. If you're booking a...

Progress of delivery of cascaded/refurbished/PRM modified stock to TFW/Wales and Borders

I wonder if it's partly because the TfW franchise isn't managed by the DfT? The Welsh Government could tell TfW Rail to only use non-compliant trains on specific lines, but they couldn't use the Equality Act to do this because the right to grant exemptions lies with the DfT.

    Transport for Wales - N.Wales-Manchester- 1st January 2020

Unless you use one of the stations between Chester and Warrington. Northern don't normally call at those, so they're not calling today. I'm thinking, though. When the line to Manchester has been blocked on previous occasions, I've known TfW to run trains as far as Newton-le-Willows, and to run...

Nottingham to Tamworth (not via Birmingham)

If there are no relevant easements, there are Nottingham-Tamworth routes via Birmingham on the DG+XL map combination. You'd have to travel via Derby (or at least Long Eaton) and Leicester, and can only go through Water Orton once. Something like...

Routing people via circuitous routes to avoid rail replacement buses

There are a few Tramlink 1 (and 2, 3 and 4) fares around. I would like to know what the industry thinks you can do with "via Tramlink 1" tickets, though. GWR describe the fare as "Valid only for travel changing at Wimbledon and East Croydon via connecting London Trams service.", but GWR...

Routing people via circuitous routes to avoid rail replacement buses

At the moment, NRE doesn't show routes using the bus for Gatwick-Guildford* but does for Gatwick-London Road Guildford*. It doesn't show through tickets as being vaild on the latter route, so this isn't what causes the different behaviour. These will probably drop off the system soon. The next...

Concerns regarding the use of concessionary Oyster cards in the London area

That or a travelcard. One of the Hatton Garden gang did use a Freedom Pass on his way to the scene of the crime. It wasn't his own pass (as he lived in Dartford he may not have had one), but it was in his wallet when he was arrested. There's a report here. I don't know whether or not the...

    Permitted routes York>Bristol

If you have a ticket to Warrington Stations, you are allowed to use the shortest route to Warrington Central, or the shortest route to Warrington Bank Quay, entirely at your choice. While you could walk from one to the other, the shortest route is calculated on the assumption that you will only...

Delay repay where both companies are at fault

arrival should be 20:41 Working out who is responsible for a delay when two companies' trains are delayed is theoretical by its nature. You're not just comparing what happened with what should have happened. You're also looking at what would have happened if the first train had run on time, but...

Progress of delivery of cascaded/refurbished/PRM modified stock to TFW/Wales and Borders

I think I'm beginning to see why they decided not to use pairs of 153s on the Wrexham-Bidston line now.

    Permitted routes York>Bristol

There are two stations in Warrington. PM shows routes from Warrington Bank Quay. MN shows a route from Warrington Central. Since you're changing maps there, you (or rather, your son) will have to use both. Asking to travel via Warrington Central should bring up some valid itineraries.
