    National Routeing Guide update

I don't know. These ones were needed because they let you use a "via X" ticket on a route which doesn't go through "X". This sort of situation may be a bit more common in & around London because of the denser rail network, but it does happen in different parts of the country.

    Halton Curve upgrade is on

TfW have off peak tickets as well, now. What they don't have is 4 trains an hour. As the Merseyrail off peak ticket is a PTE product, you can't buy a cheap excess fare if you've already paid but want to use the TfW train. Of course, Merseyrail only has this much of an advantage if your journey...

    Restriction code FO

The version for 15/12. If you look at a restriction (such as 1A) which gives the dates in the text, it's pretty clear how it's supposed to work. I know the general principle is that you have a contract based on whatever you were told at the time you agreed it. don't, personally, know if there's...

Trowbridge to Clapham Junction via Salisbury

I don't think so. You'd need something like a return from Basingstoke to Romsey to cover the gap.

Are Chiltern introducing Super Off Peak ( ZPR / ZPS ) tickets on certain local routes ?

I wouldn't read too much into changes on brfares.com, as they don't know why the train companies have made any of the changes they show. I'd expect something on the Chiltern web site if they'd introduced cheaper fares on some routes, like you see on TfW. Chiltern still have the "January Sale"...

    Restriction code FO

Sorry, I wasn't disputing this. I was just saying that the printed rule is a bit more complicated than "leave after 8:35", even if you know you're using a Radley-London ticket. I've had a bit of a look into the machine-readable version of the FO restriction. Before 8/9/2019, the restriction...

    National Routeing Guide update

Some easement changes were published this afternoon. Changes from 31 Jan 2020 (292) to 03 Feb 2020 (293). Easement changes: Removed: 700895 (Fare route) Due to engineering works and the replacement of trains with rail replacement bus services on Sundays 19 and 26 January 2020 and Saturday 25...

    National Routeing Guide update

Easements were created to enable people to travel in situations where applying the standard rules gives a silly outcome. In this case, it's because the single fares in a 1996 price list aren't a totally reliable guide to which routes are sensible for a journey you might make today.

Southport to Chester - no journeys shown

The map shows a route between Liverpool Routeing Group and Chester. It permits the same routes, whichever station you start from within the Group.

    Restriction code FO

It has a "depart after 8:35" restriction, although you still need to obey the other restrictions. If I just search for Radley to London* times, catching the 8:41 from Radley would lead to me arriving at 9:39, where the restriction text bars anything which arrives before 9:52. The 8:43 to Oxford...

    National Routeing Guide update

Some more easements were published on Friday. Changes from 22 Jan 2020 (291) to 31 Jan 2020 (292). Easement changes: Added: 700898 (Routeing Point) Customers travelling from Roydon (Essex), Harlow Town and Harlow Mill to Basildon, Laindon or West Horndon may travel via Upminster. This...

Southport to Chester - no journeys shown

Via Birkenhead just means "via Birkenhead Hamilton Square", so you could go to Liverpool, get a train to Birkenhead, get another train back, and then get a train to Chester from there. It looks something like this* on nre.co.uk. * You many need to delete any nationalrail.co.uk cookies you have...

Routing map York - Lichfield Trent Valley

Yes; MN contains both of the main routes between Leeds and Manchester. It also contains the CLC Manchester to Warrington line. Both are Northern only, so there are no first class seats. If you haven't bought tickets yet, and wanted to go that way, splitting at Manchester would save £26 one way...

    Worcestershire Parkway split ticket

These are walk-up tickets, so you don't actually need to buy them until the station opens. If it doesn't open, you could just buy something else. I'd definitely try asking Crosscountry first, though. If you can use tickets to Worcs Parkway anyway, it would be better than any of the alternatives...

Routing map York - Lichfield Trent Valley

York-Tamworth "not via Birmingham" costs the same amount. This gives MN+BM as an option, meaning you can go via Manchester.

    Maidenhead to Watford Junction

I think the first thing I'd do with something like this is to put your plans into the TfL single fare finder to work out how much it would cost to do everything you intend to do with a contactless card. This may be affected by capping, depending on how many other journeys you intend to make, but...

    (TRIVIA) Most indirect through train

Is it? Wikipedia says the Helmsdale-Wick section was built on that route to avoid the Berriedale Braes, and the massive amount of civil engineering you'd need to build a railway through that area. The railway follows the Strath of Kildonan instead, which is relatively flat. They did build a...

    Bike on a Train Honiton

I'm not completely sure what bb21 is trying to tell you here, but cycle reservations are provided for these trains. You should get two coupons for this, one of which you could leave with your bike. There isn't anything on board to say it should be there, like you have with seat reservations. As...

    London to Bicester Village

A ticket to Bicester is cheaper if you start from Oxford Parkway or Islip. You can buy advance tickets from London from either, so you may find it useful to compare those. They also sell advance tickets to Bicester North.

Can't book Dore & Totley to Hereford on 0739 departure

Do you recall when this was? I can't see anything in an official source which says anything like this. That said, it's better to get reservations which reflects the exact journey the passenger wishes to make, as someone who's only going to Dore can tell that the seat isn't reserved until later...
