Breaking journey at common routeing point then doubling back on a local journey

33.1 miles is, I take it, the shortest Whifflet–Falkirk High–Croy distance? I was thinking in terms of the shortest route to and from one of the stations in Falkirk Group, although I missed the shortest option. Going by the distances in the data, Whifflet–Camelon–Croy is only 25.05 miles. You...

    Another rout(e)ing query

You may know this, but your ticket would let you use the Underground to Tottenham Hale if you wished, instead of Liverpool Street.

Breaking journey at common routeing point then doubling back on a local journey

I think it's hard to tell what they were trying to say there. They're trying to draw some sort of distinction between Leamington and Tyseley. Perhaps they assume that trains through Leamington stop there. Or perhaps that they didn't stop in Solihull. Me, I don't know how old F7 is. As both...

Something better than a flexi season for my journey?

I was just speculating about what @bananas may have been referring to. If you're interested, the rail industry think you can walk from Walthamstow Central to Walthamstow Queen's Road in 7 minutes. That allows various permitted routes which involve a walk between the two stations. As it...

Something better than a flexi season for my journey?

It's not a mapped route, no. My guess is that it's being offered as a route because of way retailers implement the shortest route rule. This only works for flexi seasons because they are season tickets. With singles or returns, buying a ticket to the actual destination is probably better.

Something better than a flexi season for my journey?

Flexi Seasons are offered between Nottingham (or Beeston) and London, and these are valid via Walthamstow. As flexi seasons allow you to make any number of journeys on the day of travel, this would allow a Nottingham-London-Walthamstow jouney. It doesn't cover the cost of cross-London travel on...

Is it possible to download the routeing guide maps?

The official maps are just KML files, and can be downloaded from URLs such as http://iblocks-rg-publication.s3.amazonaws.com/map_CS.kml.

Manchester to Leeds Northern vs TPE fares

The NMF64 list includes "via Halifax" tickets instead. I don't know about "reasonable routes", but this was equivalent to "via Hebden Bridge" under the 1996 routeing guide as Bradford–Manchester journeys weren't permitted via Halifax and Huddersfield. This changed when the three mile rule was...

    Weird split tickets

Was this on Saturday? The last itinerary to Birmingham I can see left Llandudno at 20:08 (link) with a change at Llandudno Junction onto the 20:23 to Birmingham New Street (link) to arrive at 23:30. There was a connection to the same train from the 19:42 from Llandudno to Chester (link), but...

    Scotrail Inter-available Stations

No, but a journey between each station and Glasgow Central is valid via the other because the diverted route is no more than 3 miles further than the shortest one, and because there's no "easement" which says otherwise.

    Sittingbourne to Gunnersbury

If I was averse to buying paper tickets, I'd look at buying a travelcard each day on a Key smartcard. It costs 5p more per day (until July), but is valid via the District Line or Gravesend, something which could be useful if the preferred route was disrupted. There are some other options which...

"No tickets available", but only on some booking sites

GWR (or their supplier) may have changed something, as it offered tickets to London Underground Zone 1 for an Exeter-London Liverpool Street journey when I tried it just now. It offered an advance, but it was only slightly cheaper than a super off peak single.

    Tonbridge - Taunton

The links between the National Rail site and the various retailers aren't that reliable. I would have suggested using a different retailer with it, but I've no idea how you would do that with their new user interface. Most retailer let you request journeys via Redhill directly, but I did have...

Should I buy a season from Wokingham or Crowthorne?

Is that documented anywhere? There's a "Using a Combination of Tickets" section in the Conditions of Travel but 14.2 refers to "a commbination of two or more Tickets" and 14.3 to "a Season Ticket ... in conjunction with another Ticket". I can't see anything to suggest either applies when you...

Trivia: Highest location that each TOC/FOC serves or passes

I only know what the web site I checked says. If you feel there's an error then I have no way to investigate your concern. The link I included gave elevations in terms of being above or below some other point, rather than in comparison with sea level or something, so I couldn't compare the...

Trivia: Highest location that each TOC/FOC serves or passes

The railway is about the same when it gets to the station, which makes sense as it's in the open air for a bit between the tunnel and the station. The track through Elsenham is 71.65m above the start of the BGK ERL. The southern chord leading to the Stansted branch starts at 33mi 54ch on BGK...
