    Large denomination RTV's

Could an operating TOC refuse to accept RTVs issued by a franchise-expired TOC?

    Gatwick Express 1st Class

It was certainly once the case and it may still be (so worth checking) that 1ST on the GEX also offered fast-track security at Gatwick.

    All line rover 14days

It is just a shame that you cannot buy them through the East Coast site. The rewards points on those transactions would be well worth having!

What if a passenger train breaks down

Does anybody remember Chris Morris' 'The Day Today' sketch from 1993(?) where passengers on a stranded train revert to their baser selves, sacrificing other passengers and dancing while holding flaming torches?! Unfortunately I do not see a YouTube video! :D

    First Hull Trains First Class

I have seen the inside of First Hull Trains' carriages through the windows at King's Cross. The seats look quite decent, quite similar to First Great Western's longhaul seats and are in 1-2 config. I would consider 1ST well worth it for the bigger seat alone. On the lounge access, I don't...

1st Class Excuses and discussion on 1st provision

What is the legal basis for such a charge? Surely if the TOC carries you from Stevenage to King's Cross the Stevenage to King's Cross fare should apply, irrespective of whether the stop was 'set down only'?

1st Class Excuses and discussion on 1st provision

I disagree (on a service-specific but not network basis). I think that demand for service-specific on-peak rail travel may be "lumpy" in the face of large price increases. So if the price of a special season ticket valid on that constrained 6pm departure (other season tickets not valid) goes...

    First Class on EMT

I have travelled on three sets of EMT trains in 1ST. The old InterCity 125s are quite comfy but very worn. Overall, good. The more modern trains are comfy in 1ST but note that due to poor interior design 50% of window seats do not actually have good window views. Overall, should have been...

Dilemma: buy now or wait for possible January sale with East Coast

I took the 10:25 from Newcastle this morning and no disruption was apparent at any point.

Dilemma: buy now or wait for possible January sale with East Coast

I am going to be buying a ticket from Newcastle to King's Cross for travel on 3/Feb. Currently there is reasonable 1ST availability at the GBP 44.50 price point. My dilemma is whether or not to book now and secure the seat or wait for a few weeks and see if East Coast have a sale. They did...

    Platform access - Radio 2 discussion 13:35 TODAY 9th December 2013

Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2 will be discussing platform access without a ticket (e.g. to see off a loved one) at 13:35 today, 9th December 2013. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- It was quite an interesting discussion. There were some emotional stories, particularly the lady who...

Aye, but a PDF counts as a printer on my computer.

What's your favourite TOC and why?

Favourites: * East Coast for great onboard service, pleasant interiors and top-notch revenue management leading to extremely affordable 1ST fares for off-peak travel. * First Great Western for the Dawlish Sea Wall. Least favourite: * Virgin for dated and naff interiors * East Midland for...

Print at home - PDF acceptable?

PDFs were not accepted on my trip from King's Cross to Leeds yesterday or back to London today. The guard clipped the print outs with a traditional puncher.

Thrown off the train for not having means to pay for a ticket

That is an interesting idea - I really like it. "Buy at the ticket office to get a 50% discount!"

(Hypothetical) Missed last connection on Christmas Eve

If it happened to me then rather than waiting for the TOC to sort something out I would be inclined to take whatever cab was available, get a receipt and then send the TOC the bill.

Print at home - PDF acceptable?

Print at Home tickets on East Coast have a bar code clearly visible. The ticket barrier opens when the code is scanned and I have seen inspectors carry scanners too. Could you carry show and scan a PDF on a smartphone or laptop in order to be accepted for travel or do you actually have to have...

Thrown off the train for not having means to pay for a ticket

I saw a lad "without means to pay" on Peterborough to Norwich (or perhaps the way) once. After pressing from the guard and threatening to have the police come on and arrest him he revealed a hundred pounds or so hidden in his sock...
