Contemporary buses you wish you'd traveled on

Charlie Roes was part of Park Royal. Post WW2 there was an attempt of an AEC /Park Royal Roe joint venture. Quite a few Leeds buses were Park Royal, despite the original order being with Roe. Lets not forget the Tilling Bristol/Eastern Coach Works (Lowestoft) where most of the Tilling buses...

Things we don't see at stations these days

The one at leeds had a bloke come and wind it on a bit every so often it had an electric motor but a hole for a handle too. There were slots on the right so he could hang a number for platform alterations Leeds also had an early PIS. There were tv screens labelled 'Inter city departures', fed...

Future of the Settle to Carlisle, Bentham and Ribble Valley lines

What are the platform lengths. 4 x 23m i assume. Or are some longer? I suppose I am asking if 5 x 23m would be possible?

    Railway owned boats.

London Transport and its predecessors had coal delivered to Lots Road Power Station by barge. Would they have been LT vessels?

Photo on a Foot Crossing, Thoughts.

On my facebook feed i get movies from India of trains. People and cattle walking over the railway, train doors open with people hanging out, people dicing with death on level crossings. If anyone has an accident on the railway by not looking out for themselves they are not classed as railway...

    Heritage railway financial problems.

Maybe the place to look to balance the books is to look at costs. I have no idea where heritage railways spend money but there must be waste.

Things you don't see in trains any longer

Are you talking about the little step on the rail side of a platform to allow a railman to get up from rail level with some ease.?

ECML & WCML - do "up" and "down" reverse at border?

There is also the problem of errors in official documents made at the time. Some of the clerks would have been semi literate, lazy or impatient. I have found errors in official documents from the 19th century in my geniology research.

    Maintaining fitness on the railway

You can also do some less strenuous stuff which helps a bit. This is stuff I did when I was in the office. Park a little further from where you are going. In the works car park, at the supermarket etc. Use the stairs, not the lift. Do unnecessary short walks around the workplace. You have to be...

Longer Distance Service You Didn't Expect Without Changing

ECML & WCML - do "up" and "down" reverse at border?

The midland railway in Yorkshire has some oddities A train from Carlisle woukd be an up train as far as Leeds. The up main was then the whitehall curve to Woodlesford and Wakefield The route from Bradford FS is I think, up towards shipley and stays up through the east curve. But the west curve...

Trivia : UK Trains that change from 'up' to 'down' a lot

Take the Leeds Lancaster service Leeds platforms pointing west are up. Trains to London go from them As Leeds West Junction I assume the line towards Skipton becomes a down I assume its down all the way to Carnforth North Junction where it becomes an up to Lancaster The once a week train to...

ECML & WCML - do "up" and "down" reverse at border?

Isnt it complicated round Greenhill junctions. 4 lines paired by use but the 2 pairs have the up/down in opposite directions. With a junction in the middle.

    Arriva Buses (including Greenline)

This is sad because the bus companies that ended up with Arriva were good bus companies back in the day. These I remember with affection Yorkshire Woollen District West Riding and the company it acquired in 1950, Bullock and Son United Automobile Services

Which routes in the UK make sense to increase linespeeds to 200 km/h (125 mph)

What about acceleration? Maybe the slower train gets to 110 before the faster one, so some of the 125 capability is used up catching the slower train. And getting from 110 to 125 can take a while.

TRIVIA: Places served by the most depots of one operator

Struggling to think of any good ones in Yorkshire. There is Leeds - Transdev Harrogate (36, 7, X98,X99) Keighley 60, Idle A1 and Malton 743 & 740. Think they park up 1 or 2 buses in Tadcaster each night. Does that count as another depot?
