Warning Ducks, and other strange roadsign?

On the road out of Atherstone going towards Colesill there was a warning triangle warning sign with nk image. Underneath there was a plate saying Pheasants. First someone painted out the 'h', then someone stuck a picture of a roast pheasant in the middle of the triangle. Hope its still there.

    Future of Third Rail

Wasnt there one tube line that had the rails in reverse polarity compared to the rest of the system? Think the Central London Railway. Something to do with earth leakage to the cast iron tunnel lining. The Central Line tunnels are smaller than the Yerkes tubes. Apologies if I have misremembered.

Warning Ducks, and other strange roadsign?

They have been around for years. Think its a generic sign warning of ducks, geese, swans and albatrosses. And pterodactyls in Milton Keynes

    25/6.25 kV electrification removed

There used to be a power station till 1976 on the road out towards Caton. Close enough to supply a sub station at Green Ayre. Lancaster Corporation then the nationalised generating board owned it. It was by the canal aqueduct. Stuff on wiki about lancaster power station.

    25/6.25 kV electrification removed

Lancashire council wanted the bridge over the river for a road to Morecambe. They offered BR a shedload of cash, so BR shut Wennington - Morecambe via Hornby and Caton instead of Wennington - Carnforth.

Premium car features you would pay extra NOT to have

Heater controls that dont try and double guess what you want. If I turn the temperature up it doesnt mean I want the fan on full blast. If I do, then i will twiddle the knob to turn the fan up. And they should remember how they were set when you turn the ignition off, so you dont have to...

    Devon to Yorkshire during ww2

Bear in mind that while the war ended in Europe 8th May 1945 the war against Japan continued till 15 august. So while air raids ended the country was still on a war footing. Then the A bomb changed everything.

    Heritage railway financial problems.

People are skint and preserved railways are expensive days out. A small part of the population still scared of catching COVID. After the lockdowns and travel restrictions. people just want to go to the sun this year. A wet week in Rhyl doesnt appeal. Public transport has become traumatically...

Announcing you have cashflow problems will alarm suppliers and banks who may buy their debt. So you suddenly find yourself having to pay up front for everything instead of 30-60 days later. Thats what made Woolies go bust.
