CBT Epic Bus Competition: How Far Can You Go on 3 Buses?

Yes. There used to be Stagecoach routes to KL and Ingleton. They abandoned the Lune valley and KLCH took over. But KLCH did have a Lancaster - KL service before then, the current 82 This may be an easier timetable to read...

CBT Epic Bus Competition: How Far Can You Go on 3 Buses?

The 580 Skipton to Settle becomes a 581 to go on to Kirkby Lonsdale. It then becomes an 81 or 82 for Lancaster. It's one bus that runs through. Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire run it with buses, not coaches. I think there are 4 separate registrations so bustimes.org isn't helpful. The Dalesbus...

CBT Epic Bus Competition: How Far Can You Go on 3 Buses?

I assumed Dalesbus was out of scope as many routes are banned for bus passes. Dunno if the £2 fares will be available on Dalesbus this year.

CBT Epic Bus Competition: How Far Can You Go on 3 Buses?

It's a pity that there are no through Leeds-Skipton services anymore. A coast to coast Scarborough - Leeds - Lancaster would have been good. First dumped Ilkley - Skipton during Covid and there are just a few Transdev services now.

Do we have enough diesel locos and DMUs to last until decarbonisation?

Or we could look to some low hanging fruit electrification Oxenholme - Windermere Neville Hill - Church Fenton 3rd rail infill. All can run with existing stock. A few less DMUs to replace.

Things you don't see in trains any longer

Was it Mk3's that had those square grab handles mounted on the gangway end of the seat backs? And the electric toilet engaged sivn so you could while away the hours timing peoples visits. Sitting in a train watching and hearing the wheeltapper. Watchin the platform and vestibule get flooded...

Things you don't see in trains any longer

There were ladies compartments in the cl 501s. Still there in about 1976. Still no corridor then.

    Overcrowding during Easter

Wasnt the first major blockade over many days the Crewe remodelling and resignalling. But Crewe is lucky, it has the independent lines. I was lucky, I managed to catch a train that went that way so a good track bash. Had a non track bashing reason to travel too! That would have been before...

    Future of Third Rail

I think having small batteries on each train so some difficult places can be de-electrified, like complicated pointwork, would help. I am thinking enough power for about 400 metres ish, which would get you through most station throats. It is pointwork where most track workers would be, I think...

Where can Electrostars/Desiros actually reach 100mph

I know 25kv ac isnt always at that voltage at times when the national grid is under pressure, and electric trains will run at lower voltages with no ill effects. Or the older ones did - dont know if newer trains will run at a reduced voltage. What would a Cl 390 make of 13Kv, for example. But...

    Freight on two lengthy lines

Arnside is nice. Cafes, a nice eat in chippy and views across the estuary and into the lakes. And the rail viaduct. But it has a bore, like the Severn. A standing wave where the incoming tide meets the water coming down the river Kent. Best on a spring tide when lots of water in the Kent. There...

    Overcrowding during Easter

I have just had the last week off. I stayed home and chilled. Knackered after a high stress project at work and wife recovering from operation. Not having to be awake for an 0830 meeting was worth a lot. We are all different...

Things you don't see in trains any longer

The mk1 corridor connections. Scary as a kid. And the cream sheet protecting you from the dirty corridor connection. And everything had the BR logo on it. Mirrors, soap bars.. The green sinks in DMU toilets with the funny square taps with a lever to press down to get water. What trains had...

Things you don't see in trains any longer

Plastic cans for delivering drinking water to signalboxes. Remember them on Settle Station with 'Blea Moor' written on in pen. They went in the guards van. Train stopped specially to drop em off. Parcels all over stations. Especially baskets of racing pigeons. Are there any buffet cars still...

Filming location for the sitcom Bottom?

Anyone know what LT station is in the opening credits for the TV show Bottom? Hammersmith is my guess. Bottom was a 1990s sitcom starring Rik Mayall and Ade Edmindson.
