    Railway owned boats.

The Furness railway steamships on Windermere must have been delivered from Barrow to the lake in a similar way to Maid of the Loch. Anyone know the actual detail?

Services to and from Scarborough in 1970s and 1980s.

Not sure of the date but didnt a Sheffield - Scarborough SO service run via Hull, but bypassed Paragon Station. Used the Anlaby Curve. there was a row cos withdrawing this train removed the last train from the curve so they had to go through the closure procedure.

    Future of TPE

With OLR taking on TPE that means OLR now runs much of the railway up north. Wont the monopolies regulator have something to say about that. THere again, can OLR merge TPE and Northern to get some synergy savings?

Trivia: 'Super' depots that have replaced smaller depots

Leeds City Transport had Sovreign St, Torre Rd (2), Seacroft, Headingley, Bramley and Middleton. Now First Leeds have just Hunslet and Bramley. Most of the others are depots for council vehicles like dust carts etc. Complicated because Yorkshire Rider bought some of West Yorkshire Road Car Co...

Which type of train still in service today will you miss most when they've all been withdrawn from use on the national network?

Oh the joys of a 3.5 hour journey from Leeds to KX in a mk 1 or early vb mk 2. Thats why HST is important.

Which type of train still in service today will you miss most when they've all been withdrawn from use on the national network?

Cl 150. I remember them arriving. They ousted loco + Mk1 from many longer regional railways services. They felt a step up from modernisation plan DMUs too. OK i mourned the loss of the old but I could see they were a step to a more modern railway. And they paved the way for 156 and 158.

Trivia: Over how many islands does the Network Rail system currently exist?

I was wondering about Leeds Station. Deep below the platforms there is a meander of the Aire. Also nearby there is the eastern end on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and some wharves. Isnt there a weir down there somewhere? A weir means a waterwheel, and that needs a leat from the weir to the...

@nw1 I think there was a PIS using BBC micro. I only know of one installation at Shipley. TV was in a window so no complicated engineering. Dont know if it interfaced with signals. Dont even know if Shipley was still mechanical signalling. 100% from memory so aplogies if wrong.
