The 2 track railway east of Leeds city is a major pinch point, with little chance of widening it to 3 or 4 tracks.
There is a line down to the Tramac contrete plant be the river
Would a line to join up with the line through Stourton relieve the east end of Leeds station, maybe using part of...
There is this thread in the international section

So i wondered about the UK
I will start with a 3. York - Stockport - crewe - Shrewsbury. 2 changes. I rode it late 70's...
Hazy memory here again
Between the main trainshed at waterloo and the older windsor lines trainshed there used to be some railway offices. All swept away when they built the Eurostar shed
Were these called 'The Village'?
If not, what were they called, and was there a 'village' on a london...
If you dig back into old pre NBC bus timetables there was a well established Yorkshire Blackpool offering. The Yorkshire companies & Ribble worked together and the services had J numbers. They dug out anything that could run in the high summer especially for the mill holiday weeks. And in Leeds...
So on websites and TVM's(1) is there a foreign language option? What languages are offered?
(I cant find any way to change language on national rail Website)
What about the messages on gates?
Does it matter?
(1) ticket vending machine
Arriva and First seem to be divesting routes. Stagecoach too, but not as much.
However, Go-Ahead and Transdev are actively expanding.
Why are some doing better than others?
By closed I mean totally abandoned, track lifted.
But as a concession i will allow former BR lines that are not light rail/tram and not part of Netwoork Rail.
I will start with Challoners Whin to Selby. Closed when they built the Selby Diversion.
I also frequently did the old Leeds -Sheffield...
For personal reasons I am travelling each evening after work to Saltaire from the Settle/Hellifield area just now. Its not feasible by public transport as my destination near Saltaire is away from train/bus routes, so I would need an expensive taxi that end. And I would have to drive to a...
I have need to pass Bingley station at the moment.
I have noticed driving down the dual carriageway there is repairs being done to the main station building which is on the down side
Bingley is, of course 25kv electrified.
So what special measures are needed for construction near a live...
This pic was posted on Facebook. It Wellington Street in Leeds about 1960
But the point of this post is the traffic lights
The pole is painted with black and white stripes, and the amber level is also painted white
I sort of can remember this, but when were the stripes on traffic lights...
On my facebook feed i get movies taken of Indian Railways.
The trains all run with doors open.
And there are people on the tracks, often just taking a short cut. No- one in hi-viz. Electrified railways too (overhead).
And some show level crossings with people chancing it in front of trains...
Not counting bus stations in suburbs, which town/city centre had the most bus stations concurrently?
I will start with Leeds
Central bus Station (the current leeds Bus Station is on the same site)
Cross York Street. Where the 'Tramway' red West Riding buses went from. There is a co-op and some...
I understand EMU's on Southern Region had a socket between carriages where a high voltage DC cable could be plugged in to allow the trains to be moved in depots where there was no 3rd rail for safety reasons, called a receptacle box. (Having a live rail in pitted area would be a real hazard)...
I have a full UK driving licence (passed manual gearbox test 1979)
I have these groups:
AM, A, B1, B, C1, D1, BE, C1E, D1E, f, k, l, n, p and q
What else do I need to drive a vintage bus where fares are not collected
Any other certification?
Thanks
In order to receive live TV or to use BBC iPlayer you need a TV licence for the premises you are in
So I go and sit on a train, connect to the train wifi and watch last night Eastenders on iPlayer
Does the train have a TV licence. or the TOC? or does Network rail have one for the whole network...
I think its generally accepted the UK is in for a nasty bout of inflation.
What effects will this have on the railway?
Will inflation help because of high fares rises allowed by the current mechanism each year?
Or will the railway lose out because of some items of expenditure rising in price...
Need help.
So.eone has posted this in the Leyland National group on facebook
I think its R3.
But is there a good guide online showing the various attempts up to Cl 142 ?
And why is this in NIR livery?
Someone has said the bus front as in this example wasnt crashworthy enough. Is that true...
Its on Facebook. They have evidently been told to remove their vehicles and stuff from their garage in Keighley.
Hope they find new premises soon.
I wish them well.
Aug 7th event still on BTW
Sorry about the rubbish screen shot. Best i can do on my phone.
Mod note:
Link to Facebook group is...
I have a desire to do some circular iteneries.
One is Harrogate - York - Leeds - Harrogate
Another is Clitheroe - Hellifield - Lancaster - Preston - Blackburn.
How does one find tickets for this? Are there pairs of stations which you can travel between either way?
Or is there a special type...
In the 1920's railway companies increasingly took an interest in bus companies. they saw buses as a way to penetrate locations where a railway wasnt cost effective.
At nationalisation the Tilling bus group was also nationalised and vested in a separate part of the British Transport Commission...
