A question about travelling with a bicycle and missing the last train home

I'd think there are taxis that could accommodate a bike. Maybe a larger type of taxi that could carry a wheelchair. But I agree, the railway staff might say that my bike isn't included in the contract to travel.

A question about travelling with a bicycle and missing the last train home

It's a long way to cycle, but it's quicker than walking! And at least you got home earlier that having to wait in Preston all night for the first train back to Liverpool in the morning.

A question about travelling with a bicycle and missing the last train home

I think if I were to have approximately a 10 minute connection time at New Street I would be have just enough time to be able to retrieve my bike and make the last train home. Does this mean in any instance I’d be ok? So, train arrives late but with 12+ minutes to spare: I have enough time to...

A question about travelling with a bicycle and missing the last train home

Thanks. Would it be irrelevant that I had taken a few minutes to retrieve my bike? The fact would be the train arrived late into Birmingham giving me just a 5 minute connection time and that would be provable. They couldn't for instance say, "Well, you really could have made the last train...

A question about travelling with a bicycle and missing the last train home

I just thought: the minimum connection time at New Street is 12 minutes. Could I argue the case that in this instance I only had 5 minutes connection time because of the lateness of my arrival into Birmingham, and that's in the contract of travel as not being enough time? So, I arrive into...

A question about travelling with a bicycle and missing the last train home

This got me thinking, and wondering what would happen: Yesterday, I went on a day trip to from Worcester to London (Euston), via a change at Birmingham New Street. I took my bike with me up to Birmingham but then I decided not to take it all the way to London, so I locked my bike up in the bike...

Examples of surprisingly high mileages given to towns on UK road signs

Yes you're right, I forgot that one. I've seen Campbeltown's mileage given on a road sign at that distance. I've done that journey twice by bus recently and, from memory, there's a sign even closer to Glasgow and saying 126 miles to Campbeltown.

Examples of surprisingly high mileages given to towns on UK road signs

Examples of surprisingly high mileages given to towns on UK road signs

Just signs on A roads, B roads and motorways, I mean. No signs like at Land's End "New York 3000 miles" etc.

Examples of surprisingly high mileages given to towns on UK road signs

I'm in Scotland right now, and this got me thinking: In Glasgow or Perth or Fort William, I keep seeing the small village of Crainlarich listed on road signs, and a distance of 60+ miles given to the place. I'm looking for examples of very high mileages given to UK destinations on road signs...

Looking for a phone app with the "via" option

I'm looking for an app for my phone where you I can input the "via" option when planning train journeys. The National Rail app let's me do that but I always encounter problems when proceeding to buy the ticket. I currently use the CrossCountry app to buy tickets on my phone, but it doesn't...

Any way of knowing if an Intercity Express is operating on a particular service.

I've noticed GWR are running some of the new Intercity Express trains on the Cotswolds Line. I don't know how many per day, but for sure there are some; I've seen them passing the railway line near me. I'd like to try one, between Worcester and Evesham. Other than turning up and taking my...

    One-day bus ticket for London

Thanks. I am new to using contactless. So, please can you just confirm that I tap my Visa card onto the yellow reader at the entrance on each bus I board, and then it's all taken care of and I just pay the capped price of £4.50 per day?

My hobby: Almost 2,000 places visited in Britain

This is my hobby: I've been travelling across Britain in my spare time over the past 20 years or so. I don't drive, so mostly I use trains, trains + bus, trains + bike, coaches, and occasionally by car when a family member drives. Firstly, I made sure I visited every city in Britain, then...

    Megabus vs National Express

I use Megabus fairly frequently, because they offer unbeatable prices. I've done Birmingham-Leeds, London-Swansea, Glasgow-Birmingham, Leeds-Glasgow and other routes. I've used National Express just the once, years ago, from Skegness to Spalding, I think it was. I had a look today and...

    One-day bus ticket for London

I usually buy the one-day off-peak travelcard when I'm in London. Last time it cost me £12.30. I am an occasional visitor to London and I don't want to get an Oyster card. This time, I'm not using the tube or trains, just using London's buses. Is there a one-day ticket that would cost less...
