SWR Portsmouth services diverted via Oxshott on 3/4 August

If it's not every working, surely that negates the benefits of leaving the points at Woking set? I notice, too, that RTT still has none of the diversions that I can see - perhaps they will just be VSTs tomorrow? 1785749904 Having looked at RTT this morning I can see no workings diverted via...

SWR Portsmouth services diverted via Oxshott on 3/4 August

Thanks for the responses. I don't recall this being done in the previous heatwaves this year, where the sun strength would have been even higher, but I may have missed it. It wasn't reported in news feeds anyway.

SWR Portsmouth services diverted via Oxshott on 3/4 August

The BBC News web site has a story saying that, owing to hot weather, from 1200-1900 on Monday 3 August and Tuesday 4 August, Portsmouth line trains between Guildford and Waterloo will be diverted via Clandon. It doesn't say why, only for service 'resilience'.. Does anyone know the reason? RTT...

Hand signal dispatch, hand or bat?

Which was inappropriate because the directional arrows symbolised anything but indecision - they show the standard direction of travel on double track railways.

    Traksy Website

Many thanks for the detailed response. Obviously I knew that the routes had not been set incorrectly/impossibly (although the class 700 swinging across towards us just before we also swung over our crossover was 'entertaining'!), but was just interested to know the background. Keep up the good...

    Traksy Website

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but it didn't show in a thread search here. I was on a train from Redhill to Gatwick today and idly looking at Traksy, when I noticed that it showed us being routed into a "RUST" siding at Redhill, instead of to Gatwick! On the attached screenshot...

    Solar Panels - Effectiveness?

There are three cameras mounted on the pole adjacent to the pole on which the panel is mounted. I don't know if three would total 15w, and I don't even know if the panel is even connected to the cameras, or something lese. I'll try to see next time I'm there (tomorrow). 1785423746...

    Solar Panels - Effectiveness?

No - separate poles (see photo in post 1), which is why I thought it could have been put in a better spot.

    Solar Panels - Effectiveness?

Thanks - as I mentioned, another major factor to my mind is that it is under a bridge! I'm baffled as to its point, and why it couldn't have been placed better for sunlight reception, with a longer cable!

    Solar Panels - Effectiveness?

I often see railway equipment solar panels in positions which would seem to be sub-optimal. The attached photo shows one at my local station, Gomshall, and it is mounted vertically, under a large footbridge and facing roughly west. My question is - are such panels generally over-sized to...

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an Integrated MD as a opposed to an MD..?

Platform Departure Screens with Wrong Carriage Formation

Essentially, the more detailed information that is provided, the more there is to go wrong.

    GBR Anglia

I despair - the whole point of GBR is/should be to recreate a national, unified network, but they still perpetuate regional/route branding. A small thing, perhaps, but still the lack of nationally-cohesive thinking is obvious. Stock should be interchangeable across the whole network (subject...

    GWR 800/802 coupled together

Heaven forbid that slightly different units of the same basic design could work together properly! The railway really has lost its way in this regard, painting itself into a corner of inflexibility. Unfortunately, GBR will make little difference to this issue given the lifespans of stock.

    New Overnight Gatwick Express Train

The BBC has a story (illustrated with a Greater Anglia train - is it really so hard to find the right picture?!) about a new London Victoria to Gatwick Airport weekend working running out at 0340 on Saturdays and back at 0435 on Mondays (my bolds). It seems odd to have an outward working on...

WCR/RTC Railtour locomotives, fleet updates and movements

I believe 45mph is the maximum tender-first because visibility of the line ahead is much poorer.

    Tactiles Melting?

Today at Guildford there were messages being shown on the platform screens urging people to take care as the tactiles had become uneven. Now, the irony is that the tactiles are there almost completely to assist visually impaired people, so displaying such a message is not much use to them...

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

Appears to have terminated at Havant to allow shunting for the return. Presumably by service train to Portsmouth. My shot from earlier, near Guildford.
