As a former TfL/LU manager who worked on station projects and signage, this whole sorry saga is hugely depressing. The £500k-odd accrued by the degradation of the brand, image and basic passenger information priority is utter peanuts compared with the damage done and, presumably, still to be...
Not having a key is not the same as not being insured to do it. If a TOC can't absolutely guarantee to provide assistance from a designated type of staff, perhaps others should be able to do so? I imagine it would be financially beneficial to get a disabled person off a train if it would avoid...
One of the sad things here is that 'cleaners aren't insured to help' means that basic human nature didn't step in to help. If it was me and I saw this situation I wouldn't care if I was insured or not, I would take the tiny risk to myself to help - after all, surely it just comes down to moving...
The question here is, I suppose, are there any bike storage areas on trains with tip-up seats that do make it crystal clear who has priority? I can't recall, and the number of times I now take my bike by train has dwindled in direct proportion to the increasing difficulty of doing so.
(Almost) amusing that the thread has descended, via numerous deviations, into seeking OP definitions - the OP's "general size" is clear enough to me - meaning physical dimensions; therefore not power, tractive effort, whether worked in pairs, etc.
The mindless brigade have struck again - two large planters placed outside the station immediately next to a road crossing! No-one thinks these days, it seems, only follows orders...

I am afraid this is par for the course these days. Much as I value trees, we have got to the situation where rail is less reliable than road in bad weather, which is an obvious nonsense. I don't know if it will be addressed by a vast programme of felling (and regular follow-ups), but I suspect...
Possibly, although the world steam speed record was set with mechanical signalling... I suspect it is more to do with the signalling spacing (rather than method) and/or permanent way condition.
Just boarded a (2-car!) GWR train at Gatwick, which has a few minutes' turnround there, and the on-board P.A. was blasting; "Do Not Join This Train" while the platform announcements were saying the opposite. Worse than useless, especially for foreign visitors. BTW, the guard did a ticket check...
It's my perception that the railway is suffering from the following problem - technology in all fields of the railway's operation and control is increasingly complicated and delicate (both physically and virtually). It is therefore more and more subject to failures which are not easily/quickly...
Drivers have not been able to 'floor it' for years now. Trains exceeding speed limits are braked/brought to a stand as a result. This is why it amuses me when live announcements still say that 'we can probably make up time en route' - unless there is significant pathing allowance or similar -...
In a collision at over 110mph, I don't think that makes a significant difference. I imagine it is more about aerodynamics (but that's just my assumption).
I am talking about a decade-plus timescale. I can't imagine steam being permitted on the network forever (but would love to be wrong), and it is steadily being degraded with more and more assistance provided, inappropriate coaching stock (e.g. air-con not working), etc., that will surely erode...
Wonderful - an amazing survivor! In contrast, Reigate has this reversed double-arrow!

I'd be willing to bet that there are no original totem signs left anywhere that have not been removed and reinstated for 'heritage' reasons.

Very far indeed from strictly speaking!
